View Full Version : Driveline Shudder

So my new pride and joy is doing something odd.

When I get to about 60km/h, it gets an unusual shudder, feels driveline related rather than engine. A quick prod, or foot off, the accelerator fixes it.

A full mechanical inspection before purchase found no problems, and I do have a 2 year warranty. Any ideas? It's a 1998 Legnum VR4, tiptronic.

It's almost like when you put a manual car into 5th at 60km/h and put your foot down...that kind of thing.

Anyone know what this is?

I too have the same shudder, but it comes and goes so I havent really worried about it to much. Funny thing - my GTO INSERT INTO post VALUES (auto) did the same thing.

I was considering a GTO Auto. I didn't see any Turbo versions. Also they really tumbled in price in just 5-6 years. From the $100,000 to $20,000 or even less now, I thought something must be wrong with these.

I read reports "Too heavy" and without turbo, they would be really gutless. The 2.5 v6 Twin-Turbo VR-4 and lighter weight INSERT INTO post VALUES (1500kg vs 1700-1800 kg) was a better car.

The Legnum is a much much better vehicle. The GTO also eats gearboxs, mine ate 3 in 2 years :Cry1:

That was only the half of it. Because of the weight INSERT INTO post VALUES (1750 kgs) and 4WS/4WD, it went through tyres rapidly etc etc. Just a shocker! Traded it on the Legnum. Noticed that the Legnum launched much quicker due to being much lighter. The GTO had one thing going for it though, it could stop really well. Huge 4 pots on the front.

OK guys, you need to get this sorted as soon as possible.... As when I took my baby in to get fixed, I asked the mechanic if I left this what would happen? He said eventually the transmission will stop and you wont be going anywhere!!! I took mine to a Mitsubishi dealer and they fixed it within 4 days. When you test drive an auto VR4 take the car for at least 40 kms down the road so the transmission can get warmed up. As I too had a mechanical check through AA and they too didn't find a thing..... For further info ring me on my cell phone 027 212 9199. I am very very experience in this matter.....

Cheers,
Pescha!

P.S I didn't get an email!?

hey guys

have had my leggy for about 6 months and on buying it i noticed it had a shudder and agreed to buy it after it was fixed.....
brought the car two days later and seemed all good till the weekend when took it on the motorway and when driving at 80km/h and putting my foot down the car wobbled like crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
took car back to yard where they had it for a week and gave it a wheel alignment said it was now fine. so once again i went on the motorway and the same thing, just not as bad..
its back with them again and they're taking a mitsibushi specialist for a drive in it tomorrow????????????

been doing a search:

lock-up mechanisim
worn transmission and engine mounts

there's also a link on a couple of the threads but i cant enter it!!!!!!!!!!
