Just thought i'd introduce my self properly rather than a quick query on someones old for sale thread :D

My names Simon and i used to have an FTO GR which recently met its maker :( i've been on the hunt for alternative cars neglected the VR4. The first time i saw one was at an FTO RR day @ AP Motors in Plymouth, seemed like a very highly modified car on the day it was on the rollers but i can't remember its figures as it was about 2yrs ago :( Ever since then i've loved the VR4's agressive look and shear power from the V6 TT :D

Whilst re-kindling my fascination with the VR4 i had to double check insurance as you do with all these things and i was shocked to find that for me one of these would be cheaper to insure than my FTO :inquisiti far be it i might add for me to complain as i would be a step closer to my dream :) i was also surprised as the same insurance company had said no to an Impreza and an Evo so i wasn't expecting much :)

I will double check but once i'd been given the price I did ask them to be sure it was the VR4 which is a 2.5 V6 Twin Turbo. She went away and said yep but when i was getting the quote it was for a standard car the one i may be getting has an air filter/exhaust/alloys so I'll confirm that today hopefully :)

Hi mate

The car you saw would probably have been Kev's (from AP).

Through the FTO Owners Club that i'm a member of at the moment they have an affiliated Insurer called Sky Insurance (broker). They offer pretty good service actually and they are affiliated with a few other owners clubs :)
With my FTO i paid 35quid extra to have Agreed Value on the car so i dont get any issues like haggling with assessors to get the value i want. I've also been offered this with the VR4. The Agreed Value proved an absolute life saver when i wrote my FTO off in December :(
Also because i'm half way through my term and paying monthly i'm going to stick with Sky :D

The car i'm looking at buying has 77k on it. Does anyone know or able to tell me what sort of service would be coming up on a car with this sort of mileage?

...AND STAY TOLD!

Hi Simon,

Welcome to the club. There is a wealth of information here as you'd expect and the locals are extremely helpful - if you're looking at a VR4 at the moment let us know which one/where as often cars for sale are known to the club members who might be able to offer useful advice.

All the best,
Steve

A lot depends if the correct service intervals have been kept (every 4.5K)
Cambelt change comes every 45K can be quite expensive.

Where is the car ?

Is it a CVR4 members car ?

Maybe someone can look at it with you.

I had the same with SKY when i got rid of the FTO, and got another VR4 it was cheaper!

Incidentally, I phoned SKY today to see what the insurance on a 16vGolf GTi would be...... more than a VR4, by some margin! and that was with a limited mileage of 6K compared to VR4 at 20K inc business!!!

Welcome mate. Don't be disheartened, there are a few VR4's about to choose from, a little perserverance will see you spending a fortune on fuel before too long.

Is it a Saloon your after, or do you actually have some taste and maybe consider a Legnum? :p

If you tell us your requirements and budget mebbe we can help.

I'm after a saloon, i'm only 24 and really dont want or feel old enough for an estate NOI :D
but basically i've got £5500 to spend. Insurance isn't an issue :)

£4495 :o
they've obviously allowed 2k for a new gearbox or whatever the going rate is for one :S unless it just needs an oil change or summat perhaps thats wishful thinking!

AP can probably get you another gearbox and fit it for less than a grand.....maybe give them a call.....and we have Mo on here who may also be able to source one.

with regards to the one in bradford.
whats likely to be the potential problems if you are getting slow/sluggish gear changes? is it indicative of a potential gearbox failure or just needs some sort of fluid flush or something.
Sorry but i'm not terribly technical :D

Could be as simple as an ATF change, or the gearbox could be fubar. If your still interested, try and knock some money off to cover for the worst.

Aweb

could be this (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7090&highlight=slow+change) and its just trying to learn. as a trader if its gone on test drives its probably confused maybe.
I spose if it was clunky then i should be concerned :S maybe i dunno :)

Could be, it's a risk you take as with everything. If there are others worth a look you may aswell exclude the ones that aren't 100%.
