Rear Differential / Diff

Hello Everyone;

I have just acquired a 1996 EC5W Engine and Auto Transmission combo from a Japanese Importer.

Do not yet have possession of the parts but am trying to determine what rear diff ratio will work with the transmission as that was not included in the deal.

What are the potential rear ratios that could have run with the automatic transmission.

I think the ratio of the rear diff is 1:1. Thi is because I am certain that the final drive ratio, as Brad says, is done in the gearbox. So IMO, as long as the transfer box and the rear diff match, then you should be okay? I only know what I have picked up along the way, don't think I am a gear expert!

Or like in the 3000GT is is a random nominal value like 2:1 or 3:1, and the final drive gear is another 1.5:1 or something like that.

Does this mean that the diff ratio is the same in both the manual and auto? And will be the same as the evo?

evo's are different, but as far as vr-4's go, all vr4 ayc diffs are the same.

I am looking at diffs at the mo, as I have bust mine, and I have been told that the ratios in the evo diffs and ours are the same, anybody have definite info on yes or no??
