Hello all,

I have been floating around here for a bit of time now. and I found it extremely useful and entertaining, :cool1: :cool1: !

I have a P reg silver VR4 and recently had a problem with the power steering. My friend thinks it might be electrical problem, but I can't find the fuse, can anyone help?

Hi and welcome to the forum

I have just looked in my Manual and I can't find a fuse relating to the powered steering
What is the problem with it ?

Hi Nick,

The power steering does not work, even though there are enough P.S. fluid, so I asked my friend, and he reckons it is electrical problems, and ask me to check out the fuse...

Mmm maybe the belt is loose or broken or the pump has failed ?

So nothing to do with electric then?

And I shouldn't fiddle with the fuse even if I can find it?

Is it easy to find the pump/belt? Are they generic? Sorry for so many questions

Thanks. Well I think my steering just DOES NOT TURN AT ALL at low speed, though I dont notice any noise. Is it a big job that cost lots of £££?

I cant see where it would be electrical
But I may be wrong ???

Powered steering is run from the engine pulleys

I am no expert in mechanics and my friend may be wrong in saying it is an electrical problem. :p

I guess it is not too expensive to fix is it?

That's the problem with Mitsubishi parts, they are VERY expensive!!! I asked my dealer about it and he said the parts are much more expensive than BMW parts as he claimed he worked there first but he went on to say.. "okay they are much more expensive but they don't go wrong as often as BMW's!".

Your pump drivebelt may be slack or broken, pump itself or steering gear's defective..

Putting it another way

"That's the way it is with Mitsubishi parts, they are VERY high quality. I asked my dealer about it and he said the parts are much better quality than BMW parts as he claimed he worked there first but he went on to say.. "okay they cost more but they don't go wrong as often as BMW's!". "

Anyhow thank you for this information, Brind. I didn't really concern myself too much with the cost of parts as quality is always more important to me.

I knew BMW parts cost more, but didn't realise they were of low quality.

dont think that would be the case

if you rev your engine to 4k does the pwersteering work ifso its definetly be the pump.

fitting of the pump is not too hard, the only problem is u need to work under the car

im getting quite good with the powersteering system
