Kenneth

Yes, it is the toasted saloon :)

At first look, the loom look good... but then when I tried to start it the other day after changing the alarm etc it started smoking. Closer inspection (unwrapping it) showed that the heat had made some of the wires cut through their sheath.

After a bit of swearing and some time, I found the looms are fairly easy to take out, so I took the one from the old Legnum.

Today it breathed again.

Not only did it breathe, it moved under its own power. Sure, only about 2M backwards on the front lawn, but it moved!

New Exide Orbital (Blue) in the boot and some nice welding cable to the front and its all powered up now :) Only issue is the alarm... shock sensor seems a bit touchy... maybe because its got a few broken windows... lol.

anyway, all is looking good. have the windscreen here now, just got to remove old one and install new. After that, some panel swapping, some paint, some tyres and then it'll be up for re-compliance :)

Going to paint it white. I think the galants look good white.

Seeing as it's a saloon, it should be black in IMO. Either solid or pearl (but not full-on metallic) black would look menacingly fabulous! :afro:

If your going to do it a factory colour, then it might as well match the engine bay and un damaged panels, which will stop people asking funny questions when you go to sell it. And wont it cost a lot more to do the whole car, or is the rest of the paint pretty average?

If your doing the whole car, then my vote is for gold with black from the top of the doors up, marcels gold paint really looks awesome:pimp2:

Gly
20-02-2007, 06:23 AM
some sort of bright metallic/pearl silver and black..
2 tone, silver lower half, black upper half

if i was spending the money on painting the whole thing, i wouldnt go with any of the factory colours,

Kenneth
20-02-2007, 10:43 PM
Thats really the crux of it there... how much money do I want to spend and how much time?

I have 2 choices,

1) Rough and ready - Easily touched up and cheap. down side is it will look somewhat rough.

2) Show - More expensive, takes lots of time (and testing to get correct colours) but car looks showroom (till it get scratched... lol)

I think Glossy Black with Gold alloys now that is good. Black tints balck side repeaters and the only decals on the car should be the red VR4 badges front and back, get rid of the the lagnum of te back and that is what i am working towards.
What do you think?

I think that either way ill have a black base, so hey :) could be cool to have a chameleon black/silver

Davezj
21-02-2007, 12:10 AM
How about a front to back silver to black fade with black alloys on the front a silver alloys on the back to contrast the paint and black tints on the windows, with some kind of ghost black image on the silver bonnet.

Or have i seen one too many Hoverhalin/Pimp my Ride!!!

no, no, no, no, the whole point of Kenny having this car is so he can do whatever he likes it. If he asks for my opinion I shall give it to him though :)

I'm happy with him toying with this car.... it means he leaves the other one (and other things) alone for a while....:scholar:

Kenneth

Well, its official!

The gearbox modification and the twin plate clutch work. I did only reverse the car off the ramps (about 2 meters) but nevertheless it is movement!

Car fired up first time (Even with no exhaust and a vacuum leak) and popped and spluttered away for a time.

when I got the exhaust back on (the section welded down pipes) with O2 sensor and plugged the vacuum leak (BOV nipple had snapped off) it purred :)

twin plate rattles a bit but engages nicely and wasn't hard to drive at all.

Still have to work out why the bloody rad fans don't work and why the dash back-lighting, electric mirrors and stereo don't seem to have power either.

mpau009
19-06-2007, 07:15 AM
:afro: Cool.:2thumbsup I can't wait to hear how the gearbox goes with some power through it.

Iv got a stock BOV laying around if you want it too, or did you salvage your old one from the white legnum?

bradc

did you try to engage all 5 gears? I'm just hoping that 5th works fine :)

All the gears engage fine, haven't driven on them yet though.

Installed pre-facelift loom, put replacement sunroof glass in.

Drove car up and down the drive :) Radiator fans all work as does the dash :D

twin plate clutch grips damn hard though... clutch isn't heavy at all, but it grips hard and launches. about 2000rpm and it wheel spins on the grass :P
Be interesting to see how it does at the traffic light GP /haz

bradc

a couple of pics...

1) 3 VR-4s on the lawn (Carsten over to work on the bumper and pick up some door glass)
2) Galant being reversed back down the side of the house... moved it past the dead grass so it has a chance to grow back :P

Once I have a windscreen in and borrow someones bumper (worst case the white one.) I should be able to get the car complied... looking like a monster and all :D

This picture is only with Etch primer, but it is looking much more like a VR-4 now :pimp2:

I know where you're coming from with that - I think it's the squareness of the bumper that does it.

Turbo_Steve

I think it should be burnt metallic orange with black above the doors, and shiny anthracite / gunmetal wheels.

Lambourghini Orange, so that it's easy to get more -nods- (it's actually almost identical to Ford RS orange...I know this because there is a Focus RS parked next to a Murchialago downstairs).

Kenneth

I took a door off to paint it (the white passengers door).

sanded down through the clear coat, cleaned it up with degreaser and then went to get some paint. Then I thought, well I might as well do it properly.

So I fully disassembled the door, etch primed it and then primer. What a mission, taking everything out of the door is a pain in the ass.

Oh, and I disassembled the wing mirror also. I thought of putting up a howto for it, but to be honest the only advice I would give for disassembling the mirror is DONT. :P

Gly

any progress??

Kenneth
10-01-2009, 09:40 PM
Depends on what you call progress really... done stuff (like changed the gearbox again etc) but nothing on the painting side of things.

So car still looks rough as guts... goes well though! lol
