I just got back from a weekend trip to Christchurch. I saw so many VR4s on the way. And there is a heap of them in Christchurch. I was suprised to see so many facelifts, there are only about 5 in Dunedin (that I have seen)

It's only just occured to you they are everywhere!

At the moment I probably see 2 facelift VR-4's a week, and maybe 20 pre-facelifts a week. As for non VR4's, maybe 100-150!

No, they [pre-facelifts anyway] are relatively common here, and becoming more and more common desptite the fact that no car sales here really seem to sell them.

I had only ever seen one on the open road before though. This trip they were one of the more common cars, even more common than Legacies. And VR4s are eveywhere in Chch (especially purple prefacelifts and white or pearl facelifts).

yeh its been that way in most main citys for what 2-3 years now.

the car is dirt cheap,
fast and looks good,

more and more facelifts are showing up now thou.

i remember when i first got mine,

not many around,
then they started multipling,

so i started modding

With so many around it is a surprise there arn't more NZ members ? Any suggestions on what the NZ Committee can do to attract them to CVR4 ?

I've seen more Ferrari's and Lambo's than facelift VR-4's, and I'm happy with it that way ;)

Pete - I try my hardest, I'm always putting bits of paper in VR-4 wiper blades with club details on it, and I try to attract attention of VR-4 drivers at traffic lights and similar, but no-one seems to be that interested.

I bet it's frustrating Brad......maybe some new angle.....maybe some business cards saying "save money running your VR4"......or something ?

I suggest TV advertising :)

problem is most people in nz dont actually reaslise what they are driving i think.... i mean ive seen mint vr4sdriven by grandpas and **** house unkept ones driven by (nooffence here) islanders....

i think number plate surrounds would be good....easier to see then the stickers

yeah there are lots of people who don't seem to understand or care that they have a high performance car, makes me wonder how many get serviced every 15000km with semi-synth oil, and never get the ayc fluid changed or the atf fluid.

haha no ive done xr8 engine rebuilds before there first service!

bradc

I was going to ask that too, Ford obviously schedule them at 15000km because they know the engine isn't going to last that long anyway.

haha no ive done xr8 engine rebuilds before there first service!

I have heard of quite a few people that have brought either Ford or Holdens and they have had major issues from new, and are bascially never 100% fixed. Of course, a lot of people also own for years without ever needing to lift the bonnet.

Just seems to be one of those things with Aussie cars (was alos the same with the old english cars). If you get a bad one, you really get a bad one.

i agree with the statements about people not knowing what kinda car they have. i think people get VR4s for there features, not knowing what it can do.

Brad not a bad idea about TV advert, maybe we could put your face on there? hahaha.

im like you gly:

not many around,

i want to start modding so they can tell the difference and that u can spot me out of a crowd. (you can do that now) but you know, but funds wont let me do so.

may have another reason for so few NZ members :

INTERNET IS NOT AVAILABLE IN EVERY HOME.

last year i just argued with a lecturer who was taking a vacation in NZ back from UK. SHe said she don't need it. She said NZ is a quiet and nice place for people to enjoy nature, no need this stuff!

I saw an approx 55-60 year old lady driving a silver prefacelift Galant today, she had her window down at a set of lights so I pulled up beside her and asked her if she had heard of clubvr4 etc etc. She looked at me and said VR-4? whats that? /pan

How about using a speaker phone/microphone in public places?

There are three Legnum VR4's, one of which is a super vr4 that park behind the number 1 shoe warehouse in lower hutt everyday.. and there is another super vr4 that lives in upper hutt.. :)

I guess the thing is because they're so cheap here people just buy one and don't look any further into it, especially the grandma/pa types. And I'd have to disagree about the internet factor, maybe it's an agegroup thing but I don't know anyone without internet in their home/flat/apartment

Arent those altezzas lights? - seen thread with them being installed in uk section or pictures.. rims look dumb! i dont like 5 spoke rims.

Candee:
I see that car too parked at the the #1 shoe warehouse... right next to the river bank. theres also another car there sometimes... which is a Galant Super VR4, same colour aswell. (Grey)... i parked outside hoping someone would go to it. i get out go to the money machine and it had gone. Nevermind tho.

Will do brad! :pimp2:

Maybe we put a ad in the newspapers or some thing! OR do a canonball type of thing, just the north island thou not taking my car on the ferry anymore! /Grrr
But we could all chip in for a track day along the way and just party up, have a good time!

There is lots of things we COULD do and i don't mind finding out costings! Maybe we go and have a weekend in taupo! They have a nice new track!

My mate is the editor of the rev mag i could ask him to do a page on a big meet??? If we make it worth his time!

All in all if you advertise the there is going to be a big vr4 (oh and others, gly) meet and track day then that will incourge people to come! /rally

See if you can talk to your mate at Rev, if we can get a lot of cars together they might be able to do a feature for us, including acceleration times, sort of like what the guys in the UK did at Bruntingthorpe.

If anyone is interested in the altezza style lights, there were two sets for sale in the UK classifieds last time I looked

Reason behind not being able to get people to sign up here from NZ -

For starters, its a UK based webpage - people look for .co.nz.

Secondly, there are already a few free mitsi clubs/forums available to us here, www.msport.co.nz and www.mmc.org.nz are two of the main ones.

Most of those interested in modifying the cars are younger, and look towards other younger folk with the same interests - cruising nighttimes, drag meets, etc etc. I'm only 22 so fit the bill here :P And older folk won't bother signing up to an internet forum just to find out when they need to service their car - thats what the warranty covers!

Can still be done, just need to think outside the square. Try signing up to other forums, you'd be amazed how many people off this forum post a lot on the other ones.

if you post regulary on any other forum, perhaps you can attach something to your sig with the website name or in big letters VR4! thats one.. that works, i randomly check websites that are in peoples sig.

Well, for Christchurch members, my wife's car (97 Legnum VR-4. white) is always around town, with Club VR-4 stickers in the back window. She certainly knows what it is and how fast it goes. In fact, it was her choice of car. She has her (unusual) name on the number plate too, though people probably think it refers to Mitsubishi !! I like driving it too. I made up some cards a couple of years ago and put them on cars, and occasionally spoke to people, but nobody really took it up, so I gave up doing that now they are so commonplace. We're grandparents too, but that doesn't mean we don't know about cars, just that we were having fun with them before most of you were thought of. Check my signature for our fleet! Club VR-4 is alive and well here in the Garden City.

Pete, of course you're a grandfather, you own a mid 80's Jag :) Just kidding, I want an XJS V12 as you know :)

Pete: Whats the plate say so I can give her a toot and a wave if I see it around town.

Pete M
15-03-2007, 12:54 AM
Well, it's a Mitsubishi, and her name is Mitzi (true!), so the plate is MITZI'S /Wave

Brad: The V12 has similar horsepower to the VR-4, but delivers it
in a completely different way. No drama, very quiet, but is still accelerating
firmly at 220Km/h. So I've heard, anyway./pan:bobby2:

I think there are only three Legnums, one a Super VR4 and the other two are normal ones. They are all the same colour as well if i remember rightly.

Pete, yeah I took a BMW 850i for a drive and I agree with you, it didn't feel like it was accelerating at all, but then 1st gear went to 105kmh and it was accelerating fairly hard at 60-100kmh, I would say just as quick as a VR-4. A 6 speed manual would be fantastic.

d i c k i e s
15-03-2007, 04:47 AM

bradc

The one I drove had a 4 speed auto, so it had really really tall gears

djb160

105 in first, holy s#!t

Pete M
19-03-2007, 03:11 AM
Well the XJ has a GM400 three speed box and it's supposed to change at 85Km/h and 145Km/h. Some years ago I found that turning onto the NW m/way at Hobsonville Rd heading to town, I was going over 200 before Royal Rd crest, backed off at that point, but was still accelerating hard in top.
