With the help of Andy (allbeitmine) in the morning to get one piston and one head off the block I managed to get the rest to pieces yesterday

One of the pics shows a rather large bug that was in the engine, other than that the rest should be fairly self explanatory

Loads of good pictures, but what is the point of the strip down.

What are you doing with the engine?

Looks like a big rebuild job.

WTF was that bug and how the hell did it get into your engine? It looks huge!

You doing a rebuild Brad or looking for spares?

Good pics Brad. Very interesting. We are going to do the same to my old engine at some point ...

Did Peter Jackson have anything to do with the bug?

I dunno what the bug is, but it is about 8cm long, it came out of the sump.

The engine was a seized one I got on trademe about 18 months ago. It seized due to being left outside, the two rust covered pistons required a lot of hammering to get them out :) The rest were easy to get out though.

I'm taking out the pistons and rods to get forged ones made up, and I'm going to remove the cams at some point to get them reground

Quite a rarity then !! not sure which was worse, that, or Brad's big toe/pan

Good pics though mate. Always loved engines in bits - as White Lightning said, I've one outside now waiting the same treatment!

Andy, just showing off to you that us men down here don't wear shoes to pull apart engines :)

I put the crank, pistons and rods back into the block and I can turn it over quite freely now, I wonder if it could be put back together.

Andy, I would but I don't have some parts for it at the moment, such as a front manifold, or working turbos. I will be removing the turbos from my purple car at some point so I will have a set, but I'll still have a few missing bits. The rest is in very very good condition though, you're right.

The pistons, block, rods, crank and the big hunk of metal you can see in the first pic are going to the north shore soon, I wonder how much the forging is going to cost?

nothing stopping you from putting a long block together. get a bit of porting done on it, new rings, get it all balanced up and put back together.

then just stick your stuff back on it.

Yeah I could do it that way. Picking up those turbos tonight :D

love the pictures, haha when ur as car mad as me just exploring the internals of a motor holds my attention. will try post some pictures of when i strip my stuffed motor. I plan to do a complete strip down too and build it back up from the ground with forged goodies
