Have been wondering this for some time......Most people (including us) see Mitsubishi Motors as a company that is known for its blisteringly quick cars like Lancer, VR4, GTO, etc.

so why doesn't it compete in Formula one?

BMW, Toyota, Renault, Ferrari, Honda, Mercedes Benz etc. all have been competing in the Formula one for many years so whats the problem with Mitsubishi???? Too scared? /help :thinking2

Not many 4x4 in F1. They tend to stick with off road - don't see many Ferraris there ;)

True but Formula one is the real thing :)

900 million viewers world wide followed it last year (I think - as I have been told).

At least with WRC the vehicles look remotely like road cars.

Don't see many F1 shapes crawling along the M6

different manufacturers use different areas of motorsport to advertise their wares , Suzuki for example build cars do you see them in touring cars ? no they prefer bike racing , and Honda only do F1 for the same reason as dogs lick their nuts , coz they can . they started many years ago with bikes and that is where their true heart is , Audi prefer tin top and sportscar racing coz it suits there customer base better than rallying or F1 . Mitsubishi obviously prefer the dirt to going in circles on tarmac , the other thing that decides which they do is budget , mitsu don't sell anywhere near as many cars as Honda or Toyota so their motorsport budget is not big enough to compete in F1

Mitsubishi are extremely successful in motorsport. Maybe subaru are as successful in WRC, but no one can touch mitsubishi on the Dakar Rally (won in 2001-2007, 97-98, 92-93 and 85). As said, their budget does not stretch to F1, nor does it fit their image.

i think it is purely a marketing strategy and advertisment consideration,
if they do decide to compete in F1, they need to throw in a lot of money.
and finally have to calculate the return of money invested

as Evolution and Impreza are getting well known in WRC in the whole world, why bother other ?

Mitsubishi put a very small amount into motorsport when compared to other manufacters.
They pulled out of the WRC due to high costs, so I F1 would be a definate no.
Mitsubishi's main focus is now 4x4 vehicles such as the L200 and Shogun. As a result they still support the Dakar.

The evo has a great reputation, and I don't think they need to compete in motorsport to preserve this image. As long as the evo continues to be a good car it will sell.

While I agree with the statements that (a) F1 is boring, (b) F1 is incredibly expensive, and (c) MMC's success in the WRC and Dakar prove that you don't need circuit racing to promote yourself in motorsport, I would like to raise one small question...

...who won the 1971 Japanese Grand Prix?*
