Didn't realise we had them in this country, or are you talking about a UK version.

theres more than you think in this country , theres several in nott's and Derbyshire on the coal mines , the first ones were sent to Scotland in the early eighties , they took up so much room on the motorway the bodies had to be cut in half which still took 3 lanes and the chassis were assembled on site , daft thing was they were landed in Southampton and low loader-ed up to the site , master logistical stroke there :inquisiti the ones i dealt with were the cat 789 (google it ) there is a bigger one now in the cat range , but AFAIK the biggest one was electric , the engine powered a genny which in turn powered the motors , motors produce max torque from 0 rpm so are more tractable

Yeah i hav seen some info about the electric ones, I Do spare parts at a cat dealer and have been told the South Australian Dealer just Sold 16 797B's ( http://www.cat.com/cda/layout?m=37840&x=7 ) to do the Olympic Dam Expansion, ans at about 5 or 6 millian each, that's a pretty big deal, be all we deal with at work are the smaller 773's. Awesome Video

when i was working on these there was only one that was bigger , and these things control so much in the construction world , the size of the excavators is determined by how big the truck is , 3 shovel fulls is the optimum for productivity , when you consider how much one of those carries , it gives you an idea of how big the shovels are
