Gly

well, the time had come for me to move on from my legnum
moving on to something else.....

i have been for test drive, hummm'd and haaaarrr'd,
talked/negotiated with the misses...

put down a deposit on a new car....
will know tomorrow if the finance has been approved.

once the approval comes thru,

i will no longer own my legnum,
how ever it will stay close to me,

it will become the property of my misses,
less a few hot bits (mags/brembos/exhaust/ice/battery box/recaros/coilovers)

they will be going on/in to my new ride

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=63089237

will know tomorrow afternoon, if this is what ill be driving round in from now on

nice looking car gly veery nice

Gly
04-03-2007, 07:19 AM
yeh, ill be pretty happy if it all goes ahead,

especially since i wont have to fork out for a cambelt change,
or a new clutch for a while.

the colour wasnt my first choice,
but the price was good, and its had its most major/expensive service work done,

and it has a massive sunroof!

i had the choice between this and a black one,
the black one was a 2000, but with higher kms, and no indication or proof of cambelt change.

ill be looking into getting a front kit sometime this year
funds permitting,

anyone got a pic of a purple galant or legnum withe the crux front on,
ive seen it befor but i can find it!

bradc
04-03-2007, 08:18 AM
thats another thing that reminds me of my purple car, the big hole in the roof :D

The only pic I've got of a purple vr-4 with a front bumper is this one

Gly
04-03-2007, 08:44 AM
well thers is/will be 2 purple legnums with that kit on,

i just need more noise from the exhaust and psssshhhh, when changing gears :P

looking at getting a sard r2d2 bov

ill see if i can get some cash together in the next few weeks for a BOV

I wouldnt bother unless you want it just to annoy people, if your running stock boost then it should be fine, too many hassles with overfuelling in my book..

If you want a hand id be keen to see your new toy, and iv already done an interior swap around. Is the glove box plastic stuff, and seatbelts the same colour? That was the main pain with mine..

One had a sunroof, one didnt so i couldnt swap headliners, which was fine... until i realised i wanted the seatbelt height adjusters to match the roof ..but had to have the tan belts in the VR4.. I generally dont tell people i restitched my own seatbelts:afro: (actually i had mum do it:2thumbsup)

P.S bet you have most of it done before the weekend anyway:P

bradc
05-03-2007, 08:05 AM
I feel sorry for your insurance company :) Just kidding.

This morning when it took me 45 minutes to drive 10km I was happy I didn't have a clutch either.

Gly
05-03-2007, 08:06 AM
ive always wanted a tubro with an annoying BOV,
there is no way im not getting one :P

i might buy kens map ecu to sort the over fueling,

im not looking for huge power mods, just some simple,
thought out ones like what ken had.

his did a respectable 180kw atw's?

im just swaping the seats around,
coz the ST has grey/blue interior,

and my vr4 has black/red,
im gonna either get the fabric in the arm rests changed,
or look for some all black ones.

bradc
05-03-2007, 08:06 AM
Mike, I'm never getting into your car then :) Scary!

I don't think he's swapping the interior though, just the seats and the important bits

05-03-2007, 09:55 AM
i just had issues with pionner about payment... basiclly you have to pay thru GE credit line who cocked up when i took my insurance out and didnt bill me for a few months so i was quite pissed off when they said they want there money NOW! and want $212 for the nex 4 months! i told GE to get ****ed as it was there fault and i would pay it back in away that i could afford. they didnt like this so i have told pionner to sort it or im going to ASB whos premium is cheaper but excess is higer.

o yeah and congrats on the upgrade!

the VR4 got alot closer to the ground today,
fitted my cusco coilovers,

also took the fujitsubo off the ST,
having a leak in the de-cat pipe welded tomorrow,
will be fitting it to the VR4 on saturday.

gonna pull of the brembos tomorrow,
and putting bits back on the ST. (brakes, shocks, wheels)

wont have as much time to work on it tomorrow as im donating blood :)

can the brembo bolt straight onto the hubs?

i'm using mitsubishi GTO caliper, cannot bolt straight on; need a cast iron metal bridge

Gly
07-03-2007, 09:53 AM
GTO calipers dont fit without custom brakets

brembos only fit on the 99+ facelift VR4s,

you'll need the hub carriers and abs sensors from the front of a 99+ vr4,
if you have prefacelift (96-98)

and the rear brake lines need to changed to the evo 5+ ones.

i have custom braket but have doubt on the quality of craftsmanship.

Luckily i have a 99 facelift parts for me to fit my GTO calipers.
Unfortunately, i cannot unwind the very big nut.
What size of wrench needed?

Removing the caliper and disc are easy, then come the big lock nut in the middle of spindle, just can't remove it.

Gly, "hub carrier" = caliper mount?

Kieran
07-03-2007, 06:32 PM
I presume you're on about the driveshaft nut. It's a 32mm and it's also got a split pin securing it. Remove the split pin, and with the car off the ground and started, get someone to stand on the brakes. Then use a dam great breaker bar (mines a meter long) and crack it off. I'm built like a garden cane and I can do it, so you'll be fine.

Gly

yeh it is,

that one we look at in manuaku has been sold,

A few days too late, but congrats Carsten, I know what it was like wanting more power ... talk about not wasting anytime modding the car just purchasing! must be close to a club record!

I suspected you bought mods with the thought of transferring to VR4 tho (ie brakes, zorst, coilovers, seats etc)

If only I could've transferred my moonroof across from my V6 too
The ONLY I still really miss....

Anymore pix?

both cars have had all the major bits swapped over,

the ST sits extremely low (lowering springs on VR4 shocks)
on 16" VR4 wheels, VR4 Brakes, and VR4 exhaust,

uploaded/1576/1173508583.jpg

the VR4 has all the good bits, cusco coils overs, FGK, 18s, recaros, boost guage, cheap BOV ive borrowed, and Brembos (yet to be fitted)

uploaded/1576/1173508660.jpg

all thats left to swap over is the I.C.E. and the momo wheel.
and i gotta wire in the apexi turbo timer,

i was bitten a long time ago,
i never stop modding :P

performance or looks, i like doing both :P

will be getting a SARD R2D2 BOV in the near future,
and some custom-ish piping and aftermarket intercooler,
all ready know what kit i want to buy (unless i find something no one else has)
cold airbox + feed
some sort of piggy back ecu.

some better down pipes to go with the 3"de-cat and 3" cat-back FGK

Dan_G
10-03-2007, 11:22 AM
looks absolutely great already! :2thumbsup don't spoil it with a nasty looking kit... :P

Although; I doubt you will get it wrong! the ST-R looked pretty tastefully done...

and a side note.... I hate living in Britain with all the salt on the roads... its an everyday battle to stop your car turning into iron oxide........... the underside of your car is spotless ... zero rust!... great condition.. nice car

Gly
10-03-2007, 11:45 AM
i wont spoil it...
ill keep all the stock parts this time thou, (sold all the original ST parts)

will still work on the ST, will be getting the skirts painted,
and the misses plans to fit a set of larger wheels... and coil overs,
its just to damn low.

Gly
10-03-2007, 11:48 AM
oh and what doz every one think....

while i have the brembos out should i colour match them to the car,
or leave them red?

bradc
10-03-2007, 09:00 PM
I think that red will make them stand out better on what basically looks like a black car to most people. If not you could go with a silver, but they won't stand out as much

d i c k i e s
10-03-2007, 10:23 PM

not much left to transfer over now...

so far on/in the vr4,

cusco coil overs,
recaros,
cd/mp3 player,
indash tv,
bluetooth hands free kit,
momo gear knob,
Gizzmo IBC,

apexi turbo timer,
full new set of NGK Iridium IX plugs,
hard pipe where the rear turbo joins to the Y piece
clear/crystal side indicators

what i have left to do...

well today was a very busy and frantic day,
all audio in & battery in boot.

50mm^2 welding cable is not fun to run the lenght of a legnum
(0 Guage cable)

all was going well till it started raining (was working outside)
and i had left the moon roof and windows open.

quickly put the battery back in, and instead off putting + on + and - on -
i put the + on the - and - on the +

needless to say i poped alot of fuses.. big and little.
and on a public holiday and everywhere is bloody closed!

found some spares after a 1hour hunt,
all good, dont seam to have nuked anything

only fuse i couldnt replace was a main one 120amps
so theres a jumper wire on that as a temp fix.

then my deep cycle battery that was going in was flat as! (sittying in the ST for a month and hadnt been run)

jumped it from the old one,

sweet as,

only issue now is low charing voltage, (starts of fine 13.5v then after a 5 min run it sorta struggles to get abouve 12.8v)

wasnt like that befor moving the battery and nuking the car :(

dunno if its coz of the jumper wire (not very big)
or if its a poor earth,

will look into it tomorrow,

had enough for today.

apart from the charging voltage
everything is fine,

all the dash lights come on and go off as they should,
everything still works.

Uh-oh! When I shorted out the dashboard clocks on my GLS it popped a the voltage regulator in the alternator - Battery light on and although it charged the battery, the readings were inconsistent. Hope that's not just happened to you!:inquisiti

will know tomorrow,

if i have popped the volt reg, wouldnt it just be low all the time?

the battery light doz'nt come on...
except for the startup check. and then goes off.

ill take it for a decent spin after ive chnaged to a 120amp use instead of a bit of 12ga speaker wire

its gonna be a bitch of a job to change isnt it? (alternator... if ive cooked it?)

well today the car got treated to new oil and filter,

Supercheap had a 25% of all store stock sale so at $45 for full synthetic oil and $7 for a filter,
i couldnt pass it up....

used Castrol Edge fully synthetic 5-30w oil, (anyone used this before?)
and a valvoline filter,

also flushed/bleed the clutch with new dot 5.1 fluid,
man the old stuff was black!!
gear changes feel easier/smoother clutch feels better (bit softer?)

will be changing the gearbox fluid to some Royal purple stuff later this month,
also looking at aftermarket coolers/piping,

i used edge 5-30 once but it was too thin (blew a little blue smoke at idle) but thats jsut coz the v6 mitsis are shockers for valve stem seals...
i use 10-30. no tapping and no smoke :D

wanna sell the hub carriers from the ST??

The alternator has 3 phases, if you pop one it'll still go reasonably well. Mine blew a rectifier diode (went short circuit), so the car ran with charge light on, but discharged the battery when off.

hammer a soft socket over the drive shaft nut, possibly a size too small - it'll be wrecked after ward, but thats how we got my tight one off without wrecking the nut.
