Hi All,

I'm a new member from Melbourne, Australia. 8g Galant and Legnum VR-4's have been approved for low volume import into Australia. Now we are just waiting for the first workshop to be approved to comply them under SEVS (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles Scheme).

I am currently looking at one locally, a '97 model with 51000 km's, white, leather, roof etc. It'll be about 3 months before the guy selling it gets approval to comply it.

For those of you that have pre Aug '98 auto models, are there any simple tricks to get the extra 20ps out of them and get them up to 280ps?
Also, has anyone fitted the TRUST GReddy IC?
If so, does it include better piping all the way to the turbos?

Regards,
Delian.

You can obviously buy the ECU from a 280hp post facelift auto, in fact I just sold mine this week to another NZ member.

You can just do the usual increase boost and sort out fuelling and you'll have a similar result at the end of the day anyway.

I don't think anyone here has a trust intercooler, but if they do I haven't heard of them coming as a kit with lots of extra tubing, it may be best to go to an engineering shop and get all the pipes made up yourself.

Thanks Bradc, I was hoping it was as "simple" as changing the ECU over for a later model one.

Here's the link to the TRUST IC kit I was looking at: http://www.trust-power.com/overseas/english/04GReddy_Cooling/021801.htm

Or for the full menu: http://www.trust-power.com/overseas/products.html

Obviously it has some piping with it, maybe it just goes up to the Y point on the turbine side of the IC. I'll try and get an answer from TRUST!!

Anyone in Aus on this list??

Regrads,
Delian.

It's difficult to say, that kit shown is just a picture of a generic kit. It will probably have the pipes that connect directly to the intercooler to line it all up, but I doubt there would be much else.

There are 3 or 4 other aussies about around here, I'm sure they will introduce themselves soon

Thanks for the welcome guys and girls,

Don't worry, don't care that much for cricket or rugby for that matter.

Racing cars and yachts is much more interesting. I used to be into gravel rallying (until the fun v's cost ratio went out of balance), now I race on other peoples yachts - they pay all the big bills, I just show up with my gear on the day and go racing (we wont mention the endless hours of wiring, maintainence, cleaning, etc!).

Aus Legnum!! Welcome to a fellow Aussie!

I'm currently getting my 8g VR4 complianced in SA, but I live in NSW.

They've hit a snag with the rear child safety restraints, so I have to wait longer. Apparently the Sedan and wagon are different. The legnum passes, but the galant doesnt. Mine is a test car as they haven't done a Galant before, only a legnum.

Pics of mine are here: http://home.swiftdsl.com.au/`monstr/newgalant/

I just wish it'd hurry up because I'm driving an old EA falcon at the moment...it's a pig. My car before that was a TR Magna that I put a DOHC 24v 6G72 3.0l V6 N/A from a dead 3000GT. The thing was an animal, looked like a heap o' "s" but went like a rocket. Noone expected it (including me) to keep a car length ahead of a VX Gen3 Manual until 110km/h. Should've seen the other guy's face...and mine haha!

Anyway, great to meet a fellow aussie on here :) (And I dont care much for rugby or cricket either)

Yes Another Aussie, it won't be long now before we can have our own section :P, but jokes aside, where in melbourne are you, i am in scorsby, out east side and have a 8G leggie 97 manual sitting on the docks in Japan waiting for compliance to go through so they can ship it, and i can't wait as i have sold my 180sx as of sunday and now all i have is my crappy 85 model subie leone that i got for $1000.

So welcome and i'm glad there is someone eles to call when i am trying to get parts for my wagon in the future

Billy, your old magna didn't look like a piece of crap (you did dressed up though haha) I thought it looked outstanding, I always liked that shape of magna.

Hi VR-04-TT and JMO

I'm in Kensington, soon to be in Greensborough though!

Who did you buy your Legnums/Galants through, which importer/agent?

Thanks,
DM.

Hi Aus_Legnum, I have a Greddy IC on my Legnum (Brad, I am surprised you have not noticed it before!!). The solid piping on mine only extends about halfway to the standard solid turbo piping and connects to the cooler with silicone connectors. I agree the easiest and cheapest way to get the power up is to get a manual boost controller.

Welcome!

p.s Bradc is it purely the ecu mapping or whatever thats different on the pre-facelift ecus? or is there another reason they are lacking the 20ps?

Hey dude, call me Paul, it's easier than my nickname :) (that goes for the whole forum too :))

I got mine through Iron Chef Imports, Kristian Appelt is the dude who runs it. He's awesome to deal with. He used to own a prefacelift VR4 and knows the cars well...so there was noone better to deal with as far as I was concerned. I talked with prestige and J-spec...but neither were really helpful and didn't know much either.

ironchefimports@yahoo.com.au is his email...he'll have a web addy up soon. It'll be www.ironchefimports.com

I am going through J-spec, a couple of my mate's hate brought in other cars through them, and at the moment they seam to be doing a good job, i will tell you at the end of the procces, they are based in glen waverly wich i like as well since it's just up the road. latter in the year we will have to organise somthing, once the cars are on the road

Rosco, the facelift ecu is mapped slightly better, whether auto or manual, and comapred to the prefacelift auto it runs slightly higher boost

Hello,
Yes it is good to see that the Legnum is coming to OZ, about bloody time...

FYI, I know of a few VR4/Legnums in OZ,

Ray has a white Legnum up in Newcastle he is selling www.remlap.net , personal import 100k on the clock. Click the drive icon, it is a good site actually of the legnum.

There are 2 white ones in Sydney, A gunmetal Grey one and I know of a Gunmetal VR4 sedan in Adelaide. My mate seen a Sedan racing on the Friday night public drags on the Kwinana drag way in Perth. Did a 12. something, not fast but a respectable time.

The one in Melbourne does look good especially for the price. There are a few shops trying to get it done so they can start ordering them in. A new Subaru GT is far too expesive when you can get a Legnum or VR4 sedan.

Hi All,

As I'm in Australia, I can't easilly transfer money to a NZ bank account (the international transfer fees would be almost as much as the membership!). Can I pay $30 NZD (or $30 Aud) via paypal to the UK administrator?

Thanks,
Aus_Legnum

Hi Aus_legnum,

We have already had a couple of AUS members transfer the money as per our process. You will find that even if you add the transfer costs, the amount of information you will get access to will more than make up for any additional costs.

I did my payment via paypal and to the UK branch. It worked out to be around the $50AUD mark...but the info I've since found is worth ten times that.

Hi guys,
I am also in Melbourne in Ringwood.

I just bought a Legnum from Japan and am waiting for it to be delivered.

It is a 1998 Legnum VR-4 Type - S. Pearl white with roof and some other mods.

I am keen to get a FMIC for it and start the mods! lol

Almost time for an Aussie section on the Forum me thinks mods?? :)

The guy I went through it also bringing in a few more to sell locally, so if anyone is interested I can hook you up with his details.

welcome to the club, it might be time to start an aussie section, there seems to be more of you everyday :)

Is it a facelift or prefacelift, and what sort of transmission does it have?

Thanks Brad,

I am not sure what you mean by "facelift", I am assuming you mean that there is a difference is style for the older model ones, vs the later models. The one I bought actually has an EVO looking front bar on it.

I will post up a pic of it in a min, i have to log into my other mailbox to get the pic.

What sort of total costs are people being quoted to bring one in and get it through compliancing etc?

Mine is going to end up costing me appox $11,000 plus ORC, for a 97 manual with 67,000 on the clock. i know it is probly a bit more then what the kiwi's pay but hey it is still better value for mony then getting a VT commo wagon :P

My importer told me 4 - 6 weeks from last week. I am hanging!

I dont know anyone who has one here in Aus/Victoria yet, so I am a little nervous to be honest. I hope it is ok.

Very keen to get into it though. Looking for a FMIC already.

Mine is costing around 12k. Mine had a free compliance deal as it was the "test car" for a compliance workshop...hence why 7 months and still no car. But it's all ready to be inspected and will pass. Just awaiting the inspection date now!
