I put mine in this pipe.

Is it just a boost gauge or does it read vaccum as well?

goes past zero into another region with different scale.

the reason i ask is i spoke to a guy at RE Performance in Bury and he said lots of people make the mitake of fitting it to the inlet pipe before the throttle body, which just means you are monitoring the boost generated by the turbos continuosly. which is not what it is designed for. these gauges that read boost and vaccum are designed to run off the actual manifold/plenum pressure after the throttle body.

There is a pipe that comes off the front of the throttle body just the the plenum side and this is where i have mine connected to (reads both boost and Vac) and works great.

Hope this helps. Dave

i am thinking of fitting 2 gaugues on just after the turbos to monitor the boost each creates. i am assuming they will both read the same but i am not 100% sure of this and as i have some 0-30psi pressure gauges and fitting knocking about i might as well have a go unless someone has already done this and has an answer.

mine boost and vacc, any chance of a pic of the pipe your talking about Davezj?

Gly the post that Dave has the pic in is the best place for a Boost gauge as it hs both + and - .

its the smaller of the two pipes that connect into the main inlet chamber

The piipe that dan has used is the easiest, and works fine. I had my boost controller guage plumbed in here without any problems. However, the recommendations on MLR all seemed to suggest that the pipe Davezj is referring to should be used - it comes off the front of the throttle body and runs to the fuel solenoid which sits next to the boost solenoid (there are pics of the solenoids in my boost controller howto). If you look at the pic below, you can just see the start of the pipe in the yellow circle - look behind the bolt in the centre of the circle.

So I replumbed my controller into this pipe - it's much more of a swine to get at, and you end up running a pipe through the intake manifold.

Any change...? No. Niet. Negatory. Nein. Nada! Absolutely none. So just stick with the one Dan has used - it's after the throttle body so will give you +/- as needed.

For information the hose circled is the actuator line for the BOV and I have my manual boost gauge and AVCR boost sensor tied into it and my BOV still works fine.

got in tonight,

when i floor it, i get a spike upto 10psi, and it settles on about 8psi,

which is about right for a stock vr4?
(got a 3" fgk on no other speed mods)

right; must get to work!

does the spike increase power?

Hi to you sorry or the late reply but i think all your questions ahve been answered already. from thye pic that Dan-g had put up there i couldn't work out where he had taken it from. It's obiously the back of the plenum , i can see that now but not at the time.

Just to be clear mine is plumed in just behind the yellow circle on the pic in post above. just after the throttle body there is a pipe there. but as every one says anywhere after the throttle body is fine.

my VR4 is stock and produces about 0.55 Bar which is about 8psi.

how much vacc do you guys get?

at idle it get -25ish,
cruising -20-0,
foot off the pedal -30 hit the stoper! (engine braking)

at Idle I'm usually around -0.65 bar (-10psi)

at cruising between 0 and -0.2bar (-2psi)

and I aint sure on full lift off.

Cruising Vacuum all depends on Speed, Load, Gear, Wind, Air Density and Gradient :pimp2:

I have just moved my t-piece to the place indicated up top as i wasn't getting good reading in the negatives for map v2, now getting good readings.

I'm the same, and that's with a digital boost gauge!
