Hi, Wurzle here
I purchased a Galant 2.5 V6 24V (Estate) last year off a freind who emigrated to Oz.

On idle you realy couldnt hear the engine, but recently there is a tapping sound coming from it when at idle ,this goes when you rev ,the car has done 90,000 miles its booked in tomorrow for an Oil and Filter Change.

Just a few Questions if any one can help?

What oil do i use (Its on a V reg
How often should i do an oil change
Has anyone come across this noise

Im not very mechanicaly minded by the way but love my Galant

Regards

Hi Wurzle.

/Welcome2 to the Club. You got to be in the West Country with a tag like that:2thumbsup

The tapping you have is common on the Galant with a few miles on it. It's the
lash adjusters (or tappets). Get Amsoil that helps a lot! Do a search you'll
find lots of info.

Yup, very common "problem" on our cars, nothing serious though, other than the cool factor being knocked down abit.

Oil flushes should suffice to resolve the issue, it normally stems from using crappy oils - some have even gone asfar as upgrading them to ones with 3mm holes, rather than the standard 1mm hole - as you can imagine, larger holes allow for more oil to get in, and out..

theres plenty info under search.

Take care
And welcome to CVR4 :)

p.s. was the car owned by a previous CVR4'r?

WRD ( CLUBVR4s very own garage) are just down the M6 from you just outside Stoke on Trent, should you need any one to service ( whether that be oil or main servicing) your pride and joy.

Have a look through the threads about them, all very good.

And /Welcome
