I'm a bit skint at the moment so I've decided to do some servicing myself. The problem is I'm a newbie when it comes to cars.

I need to know how much oil I need to buy for an oil change.
The oils I'm looking at are Royal Purple, and Castrol RS 10w30.
I'm going to buy a Pela pump to make it easier and will need a oil filter too.
If anyone can give me tips on how to service the car myself I'd be most thankful.

SO I get some oil flush ? halfords? stick it in. Do I run the engine a bit to let it got right through? presumably it thins the oil out so that it flows better for extraction?
The more info I can get the better.

Don't forget a filter wrench too as it will be likely the dealer fitted one will be impossible to get off without a wrench.

What's the sump nut like? Is it just a standard M-whatever bolt, or is it a key-type? And will you need a replacement oil plug washer?

Its just a standard sort of bolt, and is real easy to reach - in the back left corner on the V6 INSERT INTO post VALUES (looking from the front of the car) I did one oil change on the last car, when I had wildly overshot the service and felt the least I could do was change the oil.

A new washer can be a good idea, but provided you check the washer is in good condition INSERT INTO post VALUES (no breaks, ridges) it's OK to put it back.

The filter on the V6 can be a little fidly to get to, easiest way I found was to reach down between the radiator and the manifold INSERT INTO post VALUES (make sure the engine is not HOT) and you can unscrew the filter by hand.

The genuine mitsi item is quite stubby, and doesn't give a lot of purchase, but putting on a Champion will make it much easier the next time.

I put in a bit more than 5L, I don't remember what the listed capacity is.

Hope its useful.

It's all useful stuff this. Especially the filter bit. It give me more confidence to really have a go. What do you recon to these pumps then, do you recon the job will be simpler with one?

I agree with Zedy, 4.5L of oil was all the 2.5L 6a13 needed. Sounds like someone should do a DIY tutorial on oil changes..
