My dad's about to have the rear droplinks and balljoints replaced on his E38. It's also had:

new cat
new inlet manifold gasket
new ECU
new radiator
another new radiator
new front balljoints
new instrument binnacle
new offside front indicator (the old one just fell out one the motorway one day)
new fan
new power steering pump

About the only problem he hasn't had with it is that the nikasil liners are fine!

Well, you don't know - Simpler car.... Less to pop! The e38 was crammed with techno wizidary whereas the E32 was more conventional.

the E31 had stability control, the same V12 engine, I can't imagine it would be too much better than an E32 or 38. What I always find amazing is that the E30 looks like an 80's car, the E32 looks like an 80's car, but the E31 looks like it was made about 5 years ago! It's also better looking than any current bmw.
