Does anyone have any experiences of using a company called 'Mapmycar' based in Romsey and Watford? Website: http://www.smartarsedesign.com/mapmycar/index.html

Would appreciate anyone casting their eye over it -see if it looks all good and advising if its even a good approach to ECU tuning.

Cheers

Think you'll draw a blank - Allow me to explain:

"Mapmycar has a unique selection of tuning remaps that covers most petrol and diesel, turbo and non-turbo engines. The maps are downloadable via the cars on board diagnostic port with our proprietary computer equipment."

Problem is that our VR-4s use a weirdo OBD-II protocol - it's not fully OBD-II compliant - hence your average ebay OBD scanner won't work. So, there will be transmission problems straight off the bat.

Secondly, and this is the bigger hitch.... Our ECUs, to my knowledge, can't be reflashed in this way - Pretty sure the ECU is a ROM not a PROM unit, so to 'chip' it is rather difficult - hence why piggyback controllers are so popular.

I think the ECU can be flashed, but it only lasts until you turn the ignition off. I can't remember why I think this - it must be from other things that have been said. I know someone did try an ecu flash and was disappointed - let me see if I can find the thread.

Here's a thread:

but I'm sure there was a follow up saying that the ecu lost the program? Maybe I've imagined that!!

Yes, only had car about 3 weeks had it remapped, or that is what i was told. Doesnt work it is impossible for the current ecu to store the map long term. i noticed more performance doing a service.
