The new electronic signs on the M6 were switched on this Tuesday. The bad
news is that they are
rigged with the SPECS speed cameras. This probably applies to all the new
signs being installed on
the M63, M60 and M56. SPECS is a computer based system.

As you go past the sign a digital camera reads your number plate. When you
go past the next sign
your number plate is read again. The computer knows how far apart the
signs are so it can work out
your average speed between the two, or three or four.

The system is fully automatic and will issue a ticket without any form of
human intervention. It
does this for every single vehicle that passes. You will not know you have
been caught as the
cameras don't flash. They work 24/7 365 days a year and theoretically
there's absolutely no limit
on the number of tickets that the system can issue.

The whole section of the M6 between Knutsford and Preston is wired both
ways. The section is set to
trigger a ticket at 78mph INSERT INTO post VALUES (don't take this as a guarantee) radar detectors
will be of no use as
SPECS is entirely passive; there is no laser beam to detect.

Be warned and spread the news!

Went down to Somerset yesterday for a bit of a day out, the new signs along the M4 from Reading through to Bath are all equipped with what I guess are specs cameras on top.

Looks like they're spreading :INSERT INTO post VALUES (

Yeees!! but the police would say that so you go speeding past and they can collect their revenues from speeding motorists. You don't REALLY think they want us to travel at the speed limit do you? How would they cope without the 84 Quidzillion pounds a year that they get from 'catching' the criminals on the road? :greedy:

So the Police and the Papers always print the truth? Despite conversations in prison being private and confidential i notice in the Ian Huntly trial they referred to taped conferssations he'd held on the telephone and in the visiting rooms with his mother.

1984...more like 2003. Big Brother IS watching you...everywhere. SPECS is just another example of this.

There should be more systems to catch tail-gaters, lane-hoggers, coffin-dodgers doing 45 mph on the motorway, people that don't indicate when changing lanes, people who drive around with their fog lights on when theres no fog, lorries in the outside lane on the motorway, drviers who leave it far too late to leave at their exit and cut up two lanes of traffic to get on the sliproad, drivers who pull onto the hard shoulder to answer their mobiles INSERT INTO post VALUES (believe it people, I have seen it done); etc, etc.

These are the people the police should be out to get. The only time that I would agree that speed cameras are appropriate for the sake of it, is in residential areas.
