Will EVO 4 front brake disks fit on a standard pre facelift 96 legnum vr4?

Nope! They are identical calipers to the facelift VR-4's though, they have a different mounting bracket, so in order to fit them you will need to get facelift hub carriers, abs sensors etc, and by the time you do all that, you may as well buy Brembo's in the first place

Err.... sorry to argue, but yes!

The standard VR4 front pads and discs are the same as the Evo 4.

I agree with Nick...as the E4's didn't come standard with Brembos they are the same as the prefacelift braking system. E5+ Brembo's on the otherhand are a different story. :)

there not prefacelift (evo4) as brembos are a direct bolt on for them

its facelift fitment, (the evo4 and facelift vr4 share the same caliper)

but the disks and pads are all interchangible for the evo4s, pre and post facelift.

Cheers for the response guys.

so i con buy some disks if they came off an evo 4.

Am i right in thinking the PCD is center to center on wheel studs next to eachother and our is 114.6mm?

Cheers dave

yes they fit fine

pcd is measured diagonally accross studs (center to center),
not the one next to it

and ours is 114.3 same as the evo 4+

here is another question what about FTO front disks. i know there are some FTO owner on here.

see link
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=4608471723&rd=1&rd=1

they are about half the price of all the VR4 specified disks. they seem to have multi fittment option with 7 mounting holes is the standard pre facelift VR4 fron t disk 256mm.

Cheers Dave

256mm is too small, I can't remember the exact size, but they are around the 300mm mark.

294mm.

there is a catalogue for national discs here (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15730), with all the dimensions required.

are standard EVO 4 disks grooved and drilled/dimpled.

does 29mm thick seam too thick for part warn disks.

i thought standard disks were 22-24mm thick.

Cheers Dave

sorry brad are you saying they do have grooved and drilled as standard?

just read your reply again.

and the answer you gave was NO.

Nick Mann

And yes, 29 is too thick. In the catalogue I linked to, your figures are closer to the mark - 24mm new, 22.4mm minimum.

bradc

yeah I said no :)

I think the EVO X will come with slotted or drilled discs though

If I read this thread right:

Both the Pre-Facelift and Facelift VR4 have the same discs (and pads) as an Evo4?
But only the Facelift VR4 has the same callipers as an Evo4?

So to get a Big-Brake kit for an Evo4 to fit a Pre-Facelift VR4 would require a different calliper mounting bracket to correct for the differences between the Facelift hub and the Pre-Facelift hub calliper mounting bolts.

So where are the similarities with the rest of the Evo's (5-8)?

The Evo IV has the same caliper as the facelift VR4, AFAIK. The only difference to the pre-facelift if I am right, is the hole spacing to the hub carrier. So I think your srarement about mounting kits is correct.

There is no similarity between the rest of the evos, except the handbrake shoes and the hub carrier bolt location and spacing. (Except a few Evo V's which have the same brakes as the IV.)

The caliper mounting positions means that facelift VR4's have the same option on brakes as Evo's 5-8, the cheapest being cast off Brembo's from Evo owners who want even more!
