Hi everyone..

My name's Christian, living in sunny Brisbane Aus.

I've been a lurker since 2005, but will be an active member of this club..

At the moment, Im eyeing on a few Galant VR4's that I saw at a car yard.. 2 are Tiptronic (Green & White with Carbon Hood) and a manual (not sure of color)coming next week.. Both tip are $15k and the manual is $17k drive away..

Can anyone give me a quick advice on what to look out for when I do thorough inspection of the car? I mean apart from the general stuff (engine, tranny & clutch conditions and other)

The green VR4 that I saw seems to be in a very good condition (mechanical opinion) when I took the Oil Filler Cap off saw the internals and was surprised that the motor looked new.. or should I say maintained?!?:inquisiti

The White one didnt look like it was in a better condition.. so I wont say anymore of it..

Oh how much is the fee for this club to have access/privileges on other areas?

Hoping to be a full member soon. ..

There is a buyers guide found under the resources tab at the top of the page!

Good luck in your search, and enjoy ownership when you get there!!

Welcome! I think the wheels on that green one are possibly the ugliest i've ever seen! You should tell them to swap the wheels on the white one to the green one for you :)

Because you're in Aussie spares will be difficult and expensive to get. If I had to recommend anything, it would be to make sure that the red AYC light at the bottom right of the dash goes out after you start the car, and that the green lights come up under heavy cornering. Also get the manual car if it is in good condition, the autos fail more often than the manuals and they are expensive to repair.

Welcome! Search around the forums, LOADS of advice on what to look for and what not. Manuals are somewhat faster than autos and don't suffer the same weaknesses in terms of Torque convertor seals popping and sensitivity to the correct specification transmission fluid - but don't let that put you off autos - they're still a good box if you like a relaxed driving style.:scholar:

Whatever you end up with, hope you like it and get many years of enjoyment from it!:afro:

dealer actually offered to lower the price on the manual to $15,950 if he allowed him to swap the ugly set of wheels into the car i want..

haha, so when is the manual turning up?

naughtika
25-04-2007, 06:37 AM
hehe, the manual turned up at the caryard on Monday already.. It's also dark green like the one above, I've also test driven the car.. it was really good, much better performer than the 6A12TT, smooth engine operation (no back fires, or ticking sound) it also had a sunroof, AYC, had a few gauges (Volt, Temp (oil I think), Oil Pressure - all these gauges have mitsubishi emblems on them), also the car seems lowered but not much.. ride was firm, but in the same time comfortable.. also I was paying close to any noise or unusual sound from the car..

oh.. just a question to all the vr4 experts...

if the car has sunroof, ayc, no TCL switch. spoiler.. what spec is it? could it be Type V or S?

/woot /woot /woot /woot oh yah.. I've already left a deposit on the car.. /woot /woot /woot /woot

here are some pics but they aren't that great...

those scratches that you can see will be fixed up by the dealer.. so I shouldn't have to worry about anything.. oh the plastic on the middle part is still there but taped, guy said he'll fix that up too..

If it has a manual gearbox, then it is a normal VR-4. There was no such thing as a Type V prefacelift with or without AYC. You got:

Type S VR-4 with AYC, Traction Control, Stability control and auto box

or

VR-4 with AYC and a manual box.

I think you need a new camera by the way :) The gauges look nice there above the radio, almost like stock items.

Thoes guages are a factory option in Japan, they used to come out on the Evo's all the time.

The 7G you have at the moment is a 6A12TT?
So it's already a VR-4 ?

naughtika
30-04-2007, 07:07 AM
Factory Options? so possible the gauges were installed by Mitsu Japan? but funny.. when i saw the wiring.. it was kinda messy.. only 2 wires that was messy though..

the 7g I currently have is only a N/A... FWD as well... sigh wish it was TT n AWD though so i dont need to trade it for the new car..

Yer, you can get them from mitsu here, but they're not cheap...

Oh, so it's just a normal 6A12 then?
Still good cars, but I can understand the VR-4 upgrade ;)

strange that the tyre sizes are like that, the front tyres are 1.8% different to the back which is quite a big difference. The mags are hideous anyway, get some nice 17x8" wheels on there with 225/45/17 or 235/40/17 tyres and your transfer case will thank you.
