Issue putting stopped car in Park

From time to time (but increasingly more often) my car is not allowing park to be selected or is is not allowing out of park. Otherwise the transmission is smooth as ever. Any ideas of the cause?


I am hoping that it is just an issue with the brake sensor, i.e the gearbox isn't registering that my foot is on the brake.

To me it sounds like a fairly simple issue, probably a loose connection or something.

Couple of things to try:-

The brake inhibitor thingy not disenguaging so locking it into park.

The ignition barrell inhibitor being slack and jaming in the base of the selector.

Couple of things to check anyway.
