If you search for 'Galant' and 'VR4' on Autotrader you will find that the second match is a V reg Ralliart supplied type S estate with the sport interior. They are asking - wait for it - £5995!!!! :wtf:

Unless the mileage is WAY high, that has got to be the best bargain I have seen for many months! :Eyecrazy:

Mine is approx two years younger, but I paid two and a half times that!!

the_boy

Surely that has to be a mistake? :undecided

£6000 for a V reg UK Ralliart Legnum VR4 is peanuts.
If it is a UK Ralliart motor won't they have details of it on file?
What would they need to be able to tell if it's one of theirs? The chassis number?

Very tempted at that price even if it isn't the black Type V saloon I'm looking for :-D

Mileage must be a concern though...........

Don't you think with over 100, 000 miles on the clock that a lot will need replacing in terms of natural wear and tear?

How long do the turbos last?
What about springs, rubber seals etc?
If you're not a good DIY'er then it could be expensive in the long run

Not that I'm a bit of a worrier

mileage has never bothered me with a car. if it's been serviced properly, then it shouldn't be an issue. apart from the time when I owned a garage, & I sold a cortina estate , one owner, fsh, with 85000 showing on the clock. I new the owner !!! :$ it had been a taxi, & had done a genuine 485,000 miles . :lipsrseal

To be honest, modern engines should be able to cope with high mileages without too many of the problems you tend to associate with leggy cars. Things have simply moved on. OK, so the VR-4 is a complex beast, but like Dave, I wouldn't be loosing sleep over it breaking down if I brought it.

It all comes down to how it's been driven and serviced - my GLS has spent most of it's life belting down the motorway and has a dealer stamp roughly once every 3 months in the book, so despite a high mileage, it feels good and solid. This VR-4 may have been stunt driven since day one - but there would be giveaway signs of this to warn you off of it.

I like Interlec's idea of a C-VR4 project car :devil5: ...

Ok here's the deal - we have approx 30 members in the UK - if we put subs up to £200 each we have enough for a club car. Would feel a bit like Alex Ferguson i,e we would each have a share in a thoroughbred race horse !

Never said the engine wouldn't last I was on about the other perishables.

Honestly, how long are the turbos supposed to last on the car?
You have 2 and I imagine it would be quite expensive.

Anyone going to answer my query???

How long do the turbos last? And don't say forever or the life of the car cos they don't...................

I may be wrong here mate, but surely it's a bit like "how long's a piece of string" ?

I guess it depends on such things as servicing, oil quality, the way the car has been driven, remembering to let the oil cool each time you turn off the engine etc etc. Unless you have owned the car from new you arn't going to know the answers to the above so it's pretty much look after them as best you can from when you buy the car and cross your fingers they last. If damage is already done then you can't change that can you.

I guess the ultimate plan would be to make the fastest VR4 on the planet.....we have a lot of knowledge on the board with good cheap ways to make big gains..........as far as I see it there is no point spending mega paounds INSERT INTO post VALUES (tm Kieran) on modding the SUMO skyline when you could spend far less cash and do the thame job.......ok it wouldn't have the brand names, but I cant see it would make a difference. My BDA exhaust and cat bypass work well.....why pay double or even tripple for HKS, Greddy, or even Ralliart parts??!!

borgan
13-12-2003, 11:01 AM
if the project is to be a rapid VR4 then upping the amount to £300 would allow a budget for mods. selling uneeded bits INSERT INTO post VALUES (interior, air con etc.) would add to the budget & lighten the car. The club could organise outings to track days where those who've paid can enjoy their investment. Should the car be written off then most parts can be sold paying back the initial outlay. whoever mods the car should be paid for their time out of the initial budget. these are just some of my thoughts if we do proceed. I'm in by the way.

We need 30 people & quickly. a deposit could be left picking the car up in 2 weeks, allowing time for the money to be collected from everyone.

Kieran
13-12-2003, 11:06 AM
Chalk up my £200! I'm good for it!

And to The Boy... Turboharger life is HIGHLY dependent on how the engine is treated. Turbo chargers CAN last the lifetime of the car, if they're given a bit of consideration:

Change the oil at least every 3,000 miles.
Always use the oil that is recommended by the engine manufacturer.
Always let the engine warm up when starting. 30-60 seconds in warmer weather and longer as the temperature drops.
Do not rev engine during warm up time, the turbo may not yet have received a full supply of oil.
Always let the engine idle for a period when stopping. The faster you have driven, the longer you should allow for the turbos to spool downINSERT INTO post VALUES (quite a few peeps in CVR4 have turbo timers for this purpose).
If you shut the engine off at speeds above idle, or the turbo is likely to still be spinning at high revs INSERT INTO post VALUES (a turbo can reach speeds of 100,000 revs) - This will starve to turbo of oil and screw the brearings!
When oil is changed, always prime the filter and crank over engine without starting until oil pressure is observed.

I'm in!

Blimey! This has to be the quickest expanding thread I have seen! I only posted the first note yesterday lunchtime! I really posted it in case anyone wanted to try for a bargain, but I think a club car is a good idea. At that price we can't lose money, can we?

Tamworth is only 1/2 hour from me, so I am more than willing to go there with a deposit, or to meet someone else who is interested.

Let's be realistic for a minute - what about ownership, storage, tax, insurance, MOT's etc etc - and what are the chances of 30 people coming forward ? More like 10 will which is then £600 upwards each plus mods etc??

What an exciting thought !!

If we could raise the cash INSERT INTO post VALUES (before it is sold) it would be interesting to have a club car.

I would be quite willing to fork out 200 quid, even though this is the worse off I've been financially for years INSERT INTO post VALUES (my aging Espace is knackered and I need another good people carrier for my 4 kids and 2 wives... only joking, 1 wife ;) I even thought about selling my Legnum the other day  :stunned: but have decided against that now :hurrah:

But spirit979 has a very valid point there

I think it is maybe worth considering an 'investment fund' I am not quite sure how it would work, but I am sure there are some legal implications. My wife is a business bank manager, I will have a word with her as I know one of her customers has done a similar thing with a bus INSERT INTO post VALUES (????!). I think it would be an awesome idea. Storage.....well I know Mo has room for 2, so another wouldn't be too much of a hardship! If we were to think about it as a hardcore racer a fair amount of money could be raised by selling off heavy parts like the interior etc. I think perhaps £6000 would be pushing it, and to raise it quickly would be a problem. How trusting is everyone for the treasurer to look after an amount of money so if and when something comes up in the future we are more prepared? Its just an idea, but as with the scrap one a month or so ago I reckon we could have made money on these things require quick action! I am jabbering, mainly because I am exhausted........but what do you peeps think? Its just an idea!

ok, and thanks, It's a Legnum, imported new by RalliArt ,99,2 owners, immaculate, EXCEPT, it's missing a small centre part to the bottom of the front spoiler, need to get one of those, any idea how much? It has the reccaro/momo/carbon fibre interior. It does not have the mmcs if I understand that correctly to be the large touch screen thingie, standard climate control computer and jukebox cd player. chrome surround on the tiptronic. Drives perfect, smooooth and tight no clunks bangs or thumps from anywhere INSERT INTO post VALUES ( that I could tell) has tonneau cover and boot guard.
