I just got around to putting these in the car last week when one of my halfrauds "super brilliance" finally died. Last night was first night drive since doing so...

Oh

My

God.

These absolutely destroy the Bosch Xenon power and the Halford Super Brilliance bulbs I've used before, despite the similar "+50%" claims. That the silverstars have won many big magazine tests of bulbs adds credence also.

Philips have just come out with the first +80% bulbs though, so... /Hmmm

And very good they are too :scholar:

Hmmmm! I've got +50% Halfraud's super brilliance ones in Ariadne, And 'Ice Blue' ones on the main Beam (I like the look, gimme a break!). I may well take a look at these.

The +80% sound interesting.....

I think the optimum combo currently is +80% philips ultimates for dip beam, Osram Silverstars for main beam (there isn't an H1 +80% yet), Philips Silvervision for indicators. That's about £60 worth at the best prices I've found (£30 for the ultimates, £10 for the silver stars, £16 for silvervisions and a few quid P&P).

If I make the switch in the coming weeks I shall install that bulbset.

I didn't change my main beam - but got the silvervision indicators and +80% for a chunk less than that from that Autospares place in Leeds.....

are these 100watt bulbs, obviously you guys will only be using them off road for your trackdays, but if they are 100watt bulbs be carefull, as when i used 100watt bulbs for trackdays i noticed they actually melted the plastic h7 to H1 bulb holder on the mains and blew the bulb and thats why they stopped working. just so you guys know that
oh and pics please lol

yeah, agreed Isaac

I put in the silverstar +50% in March, 'cos the car was travelling faster than the speed of the light in the standard bulbs.

Much better.

I got mine from www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk (http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/home.php) Where did you get yours?

Pitslayer - What we are talking about are all 55W bulbs. However, they're designed at tighter tolerances, smaller higher-pressure gas volumes and higher filament temperatures to produce more, whiter light. In fact, they produce a little less heat because more of the 55W power comsumption is let out as light rather than heat. These are all road legal.

Using higher wattage bulbs can damage headlamps and wiring, as well as being MOT failure (not E-marked).

£8.99 for the Osram H1s on fleabay. similar for the H7 and 5.99 for indicators.

I have H1s and H7s upgraded to them.

Well, I decided to forego the philips +80s because of cost... but from a local motor factor I was able to get silvervisions at good prices: £5 each for the H1s and £6 each for H7s.

Personally I'd go for 4300K HIDs every time. No comparison cost-wise to uprated halogens, but similarly no comparison with the light output either. Both my current cars have standard HIDs, and if I buy a Galant it'll probably be my first upgrade as I don't think they were even an option on 2001 models.

Covered that before. The beam pattern will be wrong with all the illumination too close to the car when you put an HID into a housing designed for halogen. The best solution to do an HID upgrade is to put HID projectors into the headlamp housing, as one member has done.

Are there straight fit projectors available? On the Omega they switched all models to projectors in 1998, with high-end models (MV6 and Elite) getting HIDs. So if you had an older model projectors could be swapped right in.

No, they have to be hand-built.

Dip Beam: H7
Main Beam: H1
Sidelight: T4W
Indicator front/rear (estate): PY21/PY21W (depending on lens colour)
Side repeater: 501 (W5W) (again, bulb colour depends on lens colour - amber bulb for smoked or clear, clear bulb for amber lens)
Stop/Tail (estate): 7443

No, they have to be hand-built.

Very true - even the best kits take some buggering about to make them fit.... And the cheaper kits end up throwing light everywhere - There was an article about them on AutoExpress.

Still - HID main beams would be worth it I think? /Hmmm

Does anyone have any pics on these lights on their car? Just wondering what they look like when they are turned on?
