Front Mount

Hi guys

i recently bought a 96 manual vr4 but have had damage done to the front already. The intercooler was damaged so I thought I may as well put in an aftermarket one. Any suggestions on what size and/or who to get to do the work. I don't want to go stupid, but would like one that flows a bit more. cheers

There are lots of 600x300x76mm intercoolers on trademe, one of those will fit on without much of a problem at all althought you will need a few pipes and joiners. As you said in the other thread you will be taking the car to a panelbeaters, you might as well give him the intercooler and let him fit the new one for you.

I read somewhere in here that a 600x300x76 requires front bar modification, is that correct or am I better to go for a slightly smaller and narrower one. I have been told that an Evo 7,8 or 9 intercooler would be best, however might be a bit difficult to find!

yeah it does. A shorter 600x250x76mm intercooler would be fine, but they are a bit hard to find.

IMO a 600x300x76 would be the best option,

cheap as chips.. SUB $250 delivered. (got mine (new) for a little over $200 delivered from trademe)
and the mods to the impact beam arnt to hard to do,

you wont get a evo 7+ cooler cheap

a evo 4 cooler will fit... but still usually more expensive that the standard 600x300.

I'm Pretty sure a 600x300x76mm will fit a pre with no Mods ??

My 600x300x100 only needed i slight alteration making to to the bonnet catch supporta and a little trimming of the inside of the front grill :thinking:

Yep, anything from a evo 4 up intercooler usually costs about $500 second hand.

600x300x76 is what i have in mine, although my front support bar came out to accomadate the new front bumper and FMIC. If u aint gonna do new piping you can source people who will fit it to your existing piping, youll need a couple of joiners and tbolt clamps if memory serves me right. Go for it mate

Easiest way to use your factory piping.

1: Get an evo 4+ intercooler

2: Rotate said intercooler 180deg

3: Remove front bumper and remove old cooler

4: Line up new cooler to front of car. ( the pipes should just about line up perfectly with the factory piping )

5: Get new mounts attached to Evo cooler and buy some joiners ( Stock evo ones will do, though you might need an extention pipe for one side )

6: Attach evo cooler to VR-4 :)
