View Full Version : ODB-II reader?

I've searched, and not really come up with anything, perhaps because it's known that the VR4 needs a MUT reader and an ODB-II reader is pretty useless for them. However, that's not the case for the UK spec galants.

ODB-II readers/reset tools are pretty cheap on ebay. Is the ODB-II port standard (ie odb-II is odb-II, regardless of make)?

I might be inclined to get one...

ODB-II port is a standard
All cars after a certain date must have one within 6" of the steering wheel and all output the same coding ( something like that)
I keep meaning to try our works diagnostics on the car to see if it works

The VR4 is not a standard obd 1 or 2 , it was a hash attempt to get something out for ( i think ) the US market .

The only tool I think work 99% is the evoscan and stuff that Aderc found

John- remember that I want it for a UK spec galant, which is ODB-II I believe.

I never was a VR4 owner (other than in my dreams and GT4)... small matter of mortgage to pay...

Hi Isaac,

I've got a 2001 UK-spec V6 (OBD-II) which works quite happily with the cables and diagnostic software mentioned in previous threads (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20121). The only thing you need to do different with our cars is ground an extra pin on the OBD connector.

Do a search on eBay for VAG KKL (http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=VAG+KKL) and you should find a load of cables that will work fine.

I've been using MitsuLogger and OBD Scan (http://www.aktivematrix.com/forum/dload.php?action=category&cat_id=13) with one of these cables with no problems.

Mike

I've just got one of those cables with the view to having a bit of a play around - hopefully aderc can use his kit on my motor at the weekend as well!
