In the yard there stands a 10 foot pole and at the bottom of the pole sits a snail, during the day the snail climbs the pole 3 feet, but at night (presumably when he sleeps) the snail slips back down 2 feet, making his total progress 1 foot ...

The question is, how long does it take the snail to reach the top of the pole?

Here's a hint, it ISN'T 10 days ... there's no trick to this question like snails don't sleep or something like that, it's a purely logical puzzle.

i dont know the answer, but im keen to hear yours.

On the 8th day the snail gets to the top of the pole and does not slide down that night

8 days. Climbs the last 3 feet on day 8

day 1 - snail gets to 3 feet and slides back to 1
day 2 - snail gets to 4 feet and slides back to 2
day 3 - snail gets to 5 feet and slides back to 3
day 4 - snail gets to 6 feet and slides back to 4
day 5 - snail gets to 7 feet and slides back to 5
day 6 - snail gets to 8 feet and slides back to 6
day 7 - snail gets to 9 feet and slides back to 7
day 8 - snail gets to the top of the pole
