Three people check into a hotel. They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room. The manager suddenly remembers that the room rate is $25 and gives $5 to the bellboy to return to the people. On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person. Now each person paid $10 and got back $1. So they paid $9 each, totalling $27. The bellboy has $2, totalling $29. Where is the missing $1?

Have no idea on answer for this one, but keen to hear your answers.

$30-5 = $25 (of course)

Bell boy has $5 and keeps $2 himself.

So now there is $25 (hotel) + $2 + $3 which still = $30

Then he gives it out to the 3 friends, so it is $25 (hotel) $2 (bellboy) $1 x 3 (each person)

From the point of the 3 friends, they have paid $27. They have the $3, and the remaing $27 (from their point of view) is in the hands of the hotel.

The wording in that is actually the wrong way around, it has been done as $27 + $2, when it is in actual fact $27 - $2 = $25 :D
