Auto Pwns Manual! /pan

Both!

I've had one of each. I prefer the auto for maneuvering, pootling in traffic and motorways. I prefer the manual for open roads.

The auto cooked it's fluid, the manual has a juddery clutch, so mechanically it's a tie too.

Thus I can't vote as you've given no option for "They're both good, now get out there and drive"

Brad, you should have really done this as a NZ / UK poll, since i think the larger number of manuals available over here will show which is more popular given adequate choice;)/rally /rally /rally /rally.

..mind you if i had to choose between tiptronic or no VR-4 at all:thinking:

Manual!! Had a tip and had no control over the car eg. slowing down, knowing what gear i was in (without looking at the dash) etc. Plus a clutch is cheaper than a WHOLE gearbox!!

the poll should be
ive already got manual
im planning a manual conversion to get rid of that silly tipbox

gotta agree would rather do a clutch than a whole box

Does this mean you have an auto??

It means this discussion has been done to the death over the last 4 years..

And there is no decisive winner.. It's down to individual preference :pimp2:

And i have as much control with my Tippy as anyone with a Manual Box :D/rally

True but when you "engine brake" does the gearbox take a beating?? My old vr4 tippy just didn't handle it very well, in the end it felt like i was driving an auto anyway and the car didn't like it when i thought i knew better (what gear i should be in etc...).

Auto and it is easier when you have a bad back than a manual

Wodj, I wasn't meaning it as a poll about what is better, it was a what do you own question.

If it had been a poll just to find out what people owned :inquisiti

Then the following would have been suffice in the 1st post:

8G owners only, what do you own?

Also there should be an option for both or 2 Man or 2 Tip etc..

But as there was this bit in the 1st post:

If you have two, please put in your fastest/best/primary car..

Then that then makes it a discussion as to which is best /pan

PS... :iloveyou: all really and i'm not being miserable and boring... :(

Just saying how it sounded..

Errr ... I edited the poll to the correct terminology

"Tiptronic" or "Manual"

"Auto" implies those useless ones they have had in other cars

Voted: Tiptronic!

Manual VR4's are very hard to find... well theyre around, but not in the city where i live... you have to shop around the country to find a decent one. Theres a few on trademe now, back when i was lookin i couldnt find one. Ohh and i havent driven any manual for 7-8 years!

I grew up on auto cars, as my mother couldnt drive a manual, so my dad always had to get an auto when buying a car.

Yeah Kieran is right, the option does need to be auto/tip. This is simply a numbers poll, not which is better, so please vote!

Polls should have had three options really than.

Auto - The UK Crappy ones
Tiptronic - The "Real" one
Manual - Those who want to be totally in control

auto was great when eating a pie but love the manual on the open road :D

I love my manual, but it is a complete pain in the hole in traffic.

Have driven a tiptronic, and they aren't bad. Altho I found when hammering it it was best to leave it to its own devices tho!

Another advantage was that the turbo's kept the boost up throughout the gear changes, as of course you don't take your foot off the gas.

Hmmm both have merits!

having been on varius different sites and seen the same questions come up time and again i can understand how frustrating it can be however newer members are only asking what you quite possibly once asked .
a little patience is required as im sure no one wants to put people off posting other than the ones who, have been here longer.
oh i have a manual which i would say is far better for hard driving

But why is the Non-Tip 'Crappy'?!:inquisiti

And your answer had better be good, or you'll wake up a lot shorter... :|

General consensus seems the tip tronic is fine, most of us use our cars from day to day am i right? Im kinda erring to the side of the tip tronic as always had manuals and looking for a relaxing time!

Sorry not to add to the vote, just a newbie gleaming for all info i can find.

Cheers

I had a tip box and now have another but recently tried a manual and now I know how they drive (a little). I have to say I now am firmly in the tip camp. I didn't notice any extra power and found the short gearing left me shifting too often. The current one is so unbelievably smooth and quick a shifiting that you don't even notice a shift it just hammers you into your seat as you reach take off velocity.
No need for me to change my poll entry this way either ;)
