I was thinking, can we have a thread made by Don that gets stickied that covers the recommended oils for every model of 8G out there.

So we have it something like:

VR-4 with auto + ayc:

engine oil:
transfer case:
gearbox:
rear diff: (all 3 oils)

VR-4 with manual + ayc

....

VR-4 with auto and lsd:

VR-4 with manual and lsd:

V6 24 with auto (4wd):

V6 24 with manual (4wd):

I4 2.4 with auto (4wd):

I4 2.4 with manual (4wd):

I4 2.0 with auto (4wd):

I4 2.0 with manual (4wd):

I4 1.8 with auto (4wd):

I4 1.8 with manual (4wd):

V6 24 with auto (2wd):

V6 24 with manual (2wd):

I4 2.4 with auto (2wd):

I4 2.4 with manual (2wd):

I4 2.0 with auto (2wd):

I4 2.0 with manual (2wd):

I4 1.8 with auto (2wd):

I4 1.8 with manual (2wd):

also is there a need to have different sections for all of the 2.4, 2.0, 1.8 I4 engines, or are they all the same, and do the GDI's have different requirements to the normal engines?

A thread like this with all of the recommendations from Don would save a HUGE amount of time, questions, threads and PM's.

Ohh and the reason why I'm requesting this is because I have no idea what oils are needed for my V6 that I'm picking up tomorrow. Because it is Meister Blue it needs the very best oils :)

Yep, I asked Don if he would kindly do this for us to put into the Library last year. I think he's done some of it but not sure what happened ........... Don?

already found it :)

Only issue is that it doesn't specifically mention the oil required for a 4wd non-VR-4. I don't actually know if the ST-R's have an open diff at the back or an lsd. I would assume that the rear diff will just need 0.5 litres of SVG 75w-90?

The SVG may actually be overkill but for a couple of quid ..... Realistically with SVG in the diff you are unlikely to ever need to replace it; you wont break it, there are no contaminants there (unlike engine oil) and its rated at upto 1/2 million , really, 500,000 miles in lorry diffs!

Only comments of Kierans excellent piece was with engine oils, and maybe I'm splitting hairs. A good 2nd choice , or even 1st if you don't thrash the VR4 would be ATM 10w-30 turbo oil, the name gives you the clue, its specifically formulated to resist turbo heat break down.
With v6 non-turbo cars you can play the fine difference between ASL 5w-30 and AFL 5w-40. The 30 weight will let the engine run just a shade cooler and give maybe 1 or 2 more miles per gallon (due to less pumping losses with the thinner oil) whilst the the 5w-40 will give slightly better wear protection. Remember we are really talking fractions here and at the very top end of available oils.
With the 4 cylinder engines I would personally go for the 5w-40 unless you have a turbo jobby and are going to give it a hard time which should steer you to the TSO 0w-30.

ok, so just to confirm, I need:

1x SDF-20
5 litres of ASL 5w-30
3 litres of MTG 75w-90
2 litres of SVG (I'm going to buy 3 so I have enough for my VR-4 as well)

Thats what I would be looking at for a manual V6 non turbo car.
