Someone I know can get me a set of Yokohama A048 http://www.yokohamatire.com/advan/default.asp (bottom middle picture) very cheap.

Note the questions below are primarily aimed at people currently using them or have used them but please feel free to add comments if related to this thread.

1st Q the tyres are fitted to some production cars as an optional extra and are supposedly road legal but how road legal and how long will they last?

2nd Q they look like very good track tyres for the dry how good are they in the wet?

3rd Q I have 17 x 7 rims – will 225/45R17 90W fit? Not sure how you calculate this

You’re a bit confused

They are road legal track tyres and will probably last 5000-10000km on the road, but they will almost certainly kill you in the wet :)

225/45/17 will be fine for 17x7" rims, 215/45/17 is probably a better option, but if you have to settle for 225/45 then you will be fine as well.

Thanks m8 – I am prepared to take the gamble for the price I can get them, but I am also concerned about the wet – especially how the climate has affected us this year. Possible new VR4 widow to add to the club!!!!!! (will let wife know)

Grab 'em if they are cheap. Many evo owners like them. Having said that, I have a mate who binned his evo in the wet whilst it was wearing those. If I could get some cheap and a spare set of wheels, I'd have 'em for track use. I would consider them for road use during most summers too!

Really track use only. see Comments (http://www.tirerack.com/survey/SurveyComments.jsp?additionalComments=Y&commentStatus=P&tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=ADVAN+A048)

Don't use them if it is wet.
