Does anyone know off hand where the earth bonding wire from the engine to the chassis is located??

theres a few earths, one is at the back.. the main one is at front of gearbox and on the side of the engine. i.e. one of the bolts that holds the gearbox to engine has the earth wire on it..

/eidt cant find a good enough pic to show you..

Thanks Barry,

I think possibly the reason I've blown two alternators could be to do with the engine suffering a poor earth possibly.

So i've got a 25A tester, (not sure if thats enough current), But i'm gonna check out the continuity this weekend.

I also have ANOTHER alternator, I really don't wanna blow this one up!

The earth strap as it leaves the battery also grounds to the chassis on its way to the engine.

Earths are a good place to start orionn but is your battery all good?

well the battery is only a few months old so i would hope that the battery is fine.

I was thinking about buying an earthing kit, but wanted to fine and check out the original wiring first!

no worrys bro!

If you wanted to check your existing earth points on the car all you need is a voltmeter. Just connect the - end to the earth on the battery and use the positive end on any known earth returns. Any voltage reading will indicate a bad earth:happy:

ah good call. I tried a 25AMP resistance meaurement and got about 0.08ohms. So i think all is good. But i'll try the volt drop method too!
