Anyone know of any english speaking (haha) EC5 galants with a 4G63 swap?

Reason I ask is because its becoming a very interesting idea for a cheap 12 second late model sedan.

Takes a lot of $$ to get up to say, 220kW on a 6A13 right?

Had an evo 4 at work yesterday which made 260kW @ wheels on pump gas, stock turbo, engine has never been opened (even the rocker cover!), on just 19psi, and 430nM of torque :afro:

In theory its a straight swap, just wondering if anyone knows first hand of anyone whos done it?

hey, cant really help...

but there are a few USDM 8Gs with 4G63T/64T swaps over in the states,
there all FWD thou as they never had the VR4

maybe if you can get a pre-GDI JDM 1.8L or 2L N/A?? dunno if these ever cam in 4wd thou?
i beleive these were 4G93's and 63's

it should bolt in?

yeah a 2l N/A 4g63 would be the ideal option, there were lots of those sold NZ new, none were 4wd though.

Yea, that would be the only concern I'd have in doing that, a FWD turbo isn't the most ideal IMHO. esp with an evo engine powering it.
Would be a cool car though.

Theres a funny clip on utube about a mirage with a vr4 engine in it. So much Fwd power its useless.

Anything 4 + should just go straight in dude. Just grab a 4 and a VR4 and line them up next to each other one day - get your measuring tape out.

Surely the 6A13 can do more, though, at least in mild tune!? I know the turbos are a little short of puff, but that aside.......?

It probably will.... But there's the kicker - We still don't really have any 'Cast Iron' figures to say what the 6A13 will do without bending/breaking things.

There are a shedload of threads on the subject though, and I think this October at Santa Pod, we'll have a better idea of where the limit is...... Hopefully without any tears!:inquisiti

That evo... What other mods did it have though?

The reason I ask is that I don't think it would be able to do 260KW ATW with standard injectors (510cc?)

In total, the VR-4s 6x390cc injectors can flow more fuel than 4x510cc. Brad has his VR-4 injectors over 90% DC to push ~220KW ATW.

So assuming that 260KW ATW is impossible for a EVO with 510cc Injectors, changing the injectors means aftermarket intervention for fuel, or remapping the ECU. Either way the injectors plus the electronics is going to add up.

In this way, I don't think the 'straight swap' is going to gain you much unless you end up spending a fair bit of money anyway.
In saying that, there is a lot more off the shelf performance gear (plug and play ecus come to mind) that can be used, so its always going to be cheaper in the long run.

heres what you havent been told about the tuning on the 4g63.

Like, 259.1 kW, 430nM at the wheels good

On 19psi,
and on 98 pump gas.
Stock E4 turbo,
Autronic P+P ECU,
big injectors (720's)
and fuelling (SX pump etc),
stock evo 4 cams,
big intercooler,
stainless mani + 38mm tial,
3" exhaust, stock downpipe,
stock 100,000km old block... No bull.

my car makes 225kw atw and it has the stock injectors and wastegate and has done 130km. Once you consider that it doesn't look that impressive at all. I also highly doubt it makes boost at 2000rpm either :)

At what cost though? The whole point in this thread was to do with the cost it took to get to that power output. The amount of money you spent doesn't make your gains look that impressive to be honest.

What I would want to see is the results that Carsten gets with his (hurry up and put it on the dyno ffs)

What sort of swap would be needed on the drivetrain?

Driveshafts etc?
