My '97 VR4 has H1 dip bulbs and H7 main beam bulbs. I changed them to the Blue type bulbs and the H7's I took out were 100w and worked fine, but replaced with 55w as recommended.

Can't help with spot bulbs mate sorry

i'm thinking i'll only change the spot light one's in the head light's and leave the normal driving bulb's in place as the fuzz here ain't keen on bright driving light's.but house robber's and alike don't seam to bother them to much??????

My late '98 uses H7 bulbs for dip and H1 for main. IIRC, the fogs are H1 too, but I'm not 100% sure on that. I swapped mine for Phillips Vision Plus, bought online from Powerbulbs following their Auto Express review here (http://www.powerbulbs.com/bulbtest/index.htm). I have used 100W bulbs in previous cars without modification to the wiring, but only after not finding a suitable 55W bulb. I'm happy with the Phillips Vision Plus bulbs though so didn't feel the need to use a higher wattage.

so it's H7 bulbs on the outsideINSERT INTO post VALUES (next to the indicator) of the head light, and H1 for the internal spot's and the foggies? so do you think it would be OK to up grade the spot,s with 100 watt item,s with out any damage?

Really depends what the wiring rating is ... A 55 Watt bulb will draw around 4.6 Amps, whereas a 100 Watt bulb will draw 8.3 Amps. From previous experience, I'd expect the wiring to be able to cope but, if it doesn't and the wiring shows signs of overheating, you're looking at rewiring from the lights back to the relay/s in the fuse box. This wouldn't be a huge job, but you'd need to be prepared to do it.

before that i think hugher rated bulbs will melt /burn the plastic connecter

i only want to replace the spot light bulbs which won't be used very often do you still think it may harm something

If it were me, I'd stick 'em in and see what happens. I guess a fuse will blow. I'd then put a bigger fuse in, but in any case I would be at the front of the car to see if any wires/connectors were getting warm. 100W at 12V means the wires need to carry over 8A INSERT INTO post VALUES (to each bulb!). I would say if anything won't cope it is more likely to be the wires.

I think the Fogs on VR4's are H3's same as the FTO's
Funkyproducts state this too FTO's and some Galants

http://www.funkyproduct.co.uk/item.php?carNumber=24&carMake=Galant&catTypeNumber=2&catType=Exterior&subcatType=Lights,%20Bulbs,%20Side%20Repeaters%20e tc&subcatTypeNumber=4

I have heard that the overload wont blow a fuse it will melt the loom and plastic connector
