View Full Version : How to change spark plugs?

I can't find an article anywhere on the forum on how to do this.

Is it an easy or difficult job to do? Don't really wanna get garage man to do it if its simple stuff and Mitsubishi will charge £70+VAT for changing them.

I'd get someone to do it for you Gurj - It can be done DIY, in fact the front three are very easy, but you have to dismantle the intake plenum and such to get at the rear three. If it were in a haynes manual it would be a 3-4 spanner job!

Not difficult, but remembering where all the hoses and wires go is a PIA.

They only need changing every 54k miles so if they've been done correctly with the correct type of plug theres no need to change them.

i can do this job in under 1 & 1/2 hours now,
only basic tools needed. its not hard to remember where to reconnect everything..

everything only fits in one place anyways.

Just take it to mitsi

I am also in the process of doing an engine flush, oil and filter change as well. Don is sending me some of that Amsoil stuff next week. Again, I wouldn't want garage man to do this if its simple job. I can't find anything on here on how to do a engine flush and oil and filter change.

I found it pretty easy nothing to hard
worse thing in my case was the fitting of the poly"whatever" gasket on the inlet made some stuff a little out and the bolts a bit short

No, not at the moment - I don't have a V6, don't forget. Maybe in the future, but that's a definetly maybe!

Don't try and follow that spark plug article that Barry's linked to either - that's for the VR-4 and whilst the basic process is the same, it's different enough that if you try and follow that you'll get it wrapped round your neck!:scholar:

Have you tried nation autowide centres? http://www.nationwideautocentres.co.uk/
they are sometimes cheaper and you also get your Tesco club points for every pound you spend with them!

I did use them once before. They don't fit customer parts. They will use their own stuff.
