Hi guys -

bought my legnum yesterday - fully love the car

on the way home, i was desperately low on fuel so had to put about £20 worth of 95 RON fuel in - when i drive it now, it doesnt boost correctly at all - stupidly i then put about £40 worth of vpower in and also some octane boost but still, it wont boost properly

the guage shows that it is coming onto boost, but it hesitates and sometimes it makes a small popping noise - is it because its struggling with the low octane fuel? please say it is!!

thanks in advance

best test would be to unplug battery, leave it for around 30 secs/1 min... then connect it back up and go for a spin (providing you know that the fuel thats in there is now vpower...)

when you put in lower octane fuel the ecu will retard things and go into safe mode.. so sounds like it might just be that :D

thats probably best done then once i have used up all the cheapo fuel in the tank then ?

will give it a whirl

sincerely hope thats it!!

Sounds like it stands a good chance. Many people say they have felt the power drop on 95 or jump on 97/98. My understanding of the ecu is that it will drop the power quickly on noticing a drop in ron, but it will take a while to increase it. Unplugging the battery should reset the ecu so it starts back on its high octane default setting. It should also reset the gearbox ecu (if you have an autmatic) so be prepared for some wierd gearchanges afterwards!!

sorted - we now have boost :)

i will NEVER put anything other than 99 in now - EVER - the noises the car makes on 95 are NOT pleasant

Yes.... They could well have been the sounds of detonation:

strange, I have run my white VR-4 on 95 for extended periods of time without any problems, once I even put 5 litres of 91 in it to get me to the next service station because the one I pulled into had no 95 or 98 and the fuel light had already been on for 50km's! Nothing strange happended at all, although I did make sure I drove it slowly and carefully and never over 3000rpm.
