If I get the the Spamstar sold privately (and dont have to trade it in) I'll be looking for a facelift Saloon or estate V6 Sport / eleagance / whatever.
Has to be manual and under 80K with a FSH and obviously the right price.

So does anyone know of any decent ones for sale or anyone here looking for diesel boredom - give me a shout! /rally

One day you'll realise that there is no point selling galants!!! You keep coming back and then going away! Are you sure you're not a woman? :P

Budget?

ATR will be the fastest and the most sporty in standard form. The Galant and Volvo will be similiar, although i'd expect the Volvo will feel nicer and be quicker than the Galant. And obviously with a turbo the Volvo's both have a higher tuning potential thant the others listed.

£6k will get you a cracking ATR, £4k should get you a top drawer V6 Galant, £5k will see a lovely 2.0 T and £7k for a D5 judging by what PH has on offer at the minute.

I test drove the S60. My thoughts:

Overall, it's got quite a similar feel to the galant. Steering maybe not quite as direct, but it's good. The brakes are fantastic (305mm even on the 2.0!) although a little touchy (that said, the 275mm on my GDI are a significant improvement over the GLS). The 2.0T has wonderful mid-range torque from the turbo, and the 5 pot is interesting.

I also joined the volvo oc and read up a lot as I was really considering one before I got the GDI... Known problems with the S60 are the electronic throttle module dying (volvo came up with a new version, but they refused to recall earlier cars) and the top engine mount (which hangs from the strut brace which even the 2.0 has) tears, and suspension bushes tend to collapse - generally people recommend poly bushes (there's even a factory volvo poly bush set for the police, but I dont believe that it's publicly available). Lots of tuning bits available - around £600 for an ecu upgrade to go from 170 to 217bhp (and 268Nm to 328) for example.

test drove a S60 D5 S tonight (81k FVSH '02' T&T Oct 07 £5600) nice car, bags of torque similar spec to a galant but not as well specced as the SE. Nice drive, quick, comfortable, safe, brakes ok, never really pushed the handling, felt neutral to hmmm not much feed back.
cant put my finger on it, but no wow factor to entice me to offer any more than £5200 (which was rejected! how dare he! lol, so seeing what else is about and may come back to it depending....).

Gut feeling makes me think with 81K the suspension may need some refreshing (polybushes as Isaac mentioned).

would be nice with beefed up suspension and a RICA 210bhp remap ;)

Also been chasing a 99 V ATR 62K FSH £4200 but the tel numbers seems duff :(

so on to see what else is out there......

Just do what I did and buy another galant :P

I only paid £2550 for my 75k X reg GDI Elegance with full MOT. £5k would buy a very nice 03 or 52 galant.

Ritch, I have a 2001, 51-plate V6 Sport estate, with 57K and FMSH on the books. If I can find the right priced Legnum VR4, then I deffo want to sell mine. Two probs tho - 1. I'm the wrong end of the country to you and 2. I am just about to start a new job, where driving to work is now a must. The current job was a train ride away so the car didn't get used from weekend to the next. Still the offer is there if interested.
