just done a quick check of my noise level from the exhaust !!! hand held a decibel meter, approx 1 mtr away from the rear of the car, centrally.
[ pic 1 ]
on tickover, a steady 80 decibels was recorded. [ pic 2 ]
at approx 3000 rpm, 92.8 decibels, [ pic 3 ]

it actually peaked at around 97.5 dcb @ approx 4500 rpm !! but the meter was getting wet, & had to back on the "for sale" shelf !!!

I suppose I could have stuck It right up the exhaust to record stupid levels !!! but I'm not that daft................. honest !! :$ :$ :p

sadly, they wont lend it me to compare Dave's !! :veryangry

A guide to noise levels is:

normal conversation 50- 60 dBINSERT INTO post VALUES (A)
a loud radio 65- 75 dBINSERT INTO post VALUES (A)
a heavy lorry about 7 metres away 80 dBINSERT INTO post VALUES (A)
a busy street 78- 85 dBINSERT INTO post VALUES (A)
a pighouse at feeding time 110 dBINSERT INTO post VALUES (A)
a chain saw 115-120 dBINSERT INTO post VALUES (A)
a jet aircraft taking off 25 metres away 140 dBINSERT INTO post VALUES (A).
2. Please note there is an extra 1dBINSERT INTO post VALUES (A) allowance for direct injection diesel engines. There is a further 1 dBINSERT INTO post VALUES (A) allowance for off-road vehicles over 2t and under 150 KW, and 2 dBINSERT INTO post VALUES (A) if over 150KW.

At Castle Combe there is a noise level in the region of 100 - 105 db depending on who is hiring the track. For comparison our HKS dragger registered 88db at 4,500rpm 1 meter away.

:lolz: 90 something decibels may not sound a lot, but the small [12" ] silencers, really give a deep exhaust note. is there such a word as burbles ?? if there is, then that's what it sounds like !! I think Daves is more raucus ?? we'll find out on sunday !! :p
