just got my naca vents today, & now not sure what to do ?? any suggestions ??
fit one, on the near side ??
fit two, one either side as in picture ? [ a little imagination needed here ! still to be lined up, cut in, & painted ]
go the whole hog & fit a bonnet scoop as well ??
or.......... take them back to the shop & forget the whole idea ??? :$ :$

mmm Think I agree with Pete to be honest
What you could do is try and get a VR4 bonnet out the scrap yard Dont know if a normal galant bonnet would fit and have a play

Nick Mann

The VR4 bonnet is slightly higher than the others. The shape is basically the same, but the shaped part in the middle is a little higher. I don't know if the higher profile bonnet ever went on the sports, etc, but my V6-24's bonnet was the lower style.

SGHOM

the pic is a bit misleading. the outside rim, [approx 1 inch all round ] will not be seen. that will be blended into the bonnet. all you will actually see is the 4" wide vent part.
A BDA said, I'm going to move them a little closer together. & hopefully it will look OK !! :$

Nick VR4
10-01-2004, 10:03 PM
Won't you get a shed load of water in the engine bay if its raining

SGHOM
10-01-2004, 10:16 PM
nope. there a mesh behind the slot & a filter !! just in case, & both vents will be ducted direct to the air box.

nick the facelift mdels have a higher centre than the pre facelift models,

Nick Mann

Aha! That explains it! Cheers, Mo.

I can't properly visualise the end look?? not too sure I would do it.

Have a photoshop picture done first just in case you regret where you put them.

Brind
11-01-2004, 02:10 AM
Take a picture of a vent on its own and then take another picture of the bonnet on its own, should be able to place the vent on the car using photoshop to see where the best place would be.

SGHOM

So, the general concensus of opinion is to take them back to the shop ??? :Cry1: DOH !! well !! I like them, so they're going on next week. :p :p

Spirit
11-01-2004, 10:39 AM
Damn right mate, screw everyone else's opinions and go with what you like !

SGHOM
11-01-2004, 10:26 PM
having spoke to Nick, Dave, & Kieran today, I think I'm still going ahead next week & fitting them, but closer together, inside the line on the bonnet.
believe me, they will look much more discreet than the picture suggests, and they will provide the much needed cold air feed.
once they are done & the boost is correctly piped, then it's going to be re-mapped & set up correctly. either Nobles of chesterfield, or Well lane in leeds.

SGHOM
09-02-2004, 05:31 PM
well !!! there's no going back now !! :$ I pick the car up at 5.30, done !!! I hope you approve ?? If not ! tough !!! :D :D

SGHOM
10-02-2004, 10:20 AM
slowly getting there !!! got to leave the tape on for a few hours yet, to ensure they're properly bonded.
And yes !! they do look a different colour ??? thats because my car has had some paintwork already. :( So, it may not be hamilton silver after all, I did notice this whan I painted the little fin on the roof ??? I think Dave & Kieran also mentioned it. Ah well !! not to worry !!
Off to Nobles now !!! :-D :-D

PS.......... may resort to taking the petrol flap in, to get a proper match !! :(

enigma
10-02-2004, 11:41 AM
I thought they were being blended in Derek????

Kieran
10-02-2004, 11:44 AM
Yeah, what happened to the blending idea??? :uhoh2:

SGHOM
10-02-2004, 12:40 PM
err................ It's all to do with hours/days/not enough in !! :$ :$
ah well !! they're not that bad I dont think ???
And also, having decided to let them bond them to the car rather than blend them in, there's no chance of the paint work peeling, or cracking. & once It's colour matched, you wont be able to tell. err......... I hope ?? :p

Kieran
10-02-2004, 06:23 PM
Have you taken the tape off yet Derek? I'd like to see what they look like...

enigma

you really need to blend them then they will look the "doggies bit's"

Kieran
21-02-2004, 08:21 PM
Didn't I say you should have blended them in?! :stupid:

It looks like the kind of thing that a Ned with his 1.1L Nova merit would do! :arse: :uhoh:

That said, I think if they're blended and painted in, they'll look pretty good. :)

SGHOM
07-03-2004, 09:13 PM
for your information, the vents are in the blender !! drilled, pop riveted, ground down & filled.
the left one is ready for paint, & the right on just needs a bit more work to match. just got to stopper them tomorrow, & shadow coat, then I'm ready to 1200 the whole bonnet.
hopefully, I'll have the bonnet painted by the weekend dependant on getting the colour match correct.
Also my son fitted an air deflector for good measure !! & a few mods to the air intake.
/edit.... just wish I could post pictures !!

Nick Mann
28-03-2004, 07:46 PM
Are these finished now Derek? There is a shot of you in the background at the rolling road where I thought I could see the finished article? Lets have a look-see!

SGHOM
28-03-2004, 08:20 PM
they're cut in, blended, & primed !! just need to paint the bonnet now.
£100 + paint to get it done. BUT !!!!....................... there is a big problem now ?? :$ :$

Nick Mann
28-03-2004, 08:40 PM
You can't stop there........

You hit a tree on the way back from the rolling road?

You want more vents before you spray it the right colour?

You have a small animal living in the engine bay so there are claw marks appearing aroung the vents?

Spirit
28-03-2004, 08:43 PM
....you changed your mind and are looking desperately for the pieces you cut out of the bonnet to weld them back on ?

....you have fallen in love with Simon's new bonnet and desire one now ?

SGHOM
28-03-2004, 08:46 PM
See post, "rolling road day" !!
there were a few cars there with some really trick paint jobs !! one in particular was the almera Dave mentioned. It looked pretty damned cool to me, & only cost the guy £100 to get it done ??
they just painted over the original 'black' with meta-flake paint, & then laquered it !!
So.................. do I just get the bonnet painted in "boring" hamilton silver, or do I......................................... :$ :$ :-b

Nick Mann
28-03-2004, 08:48 PM
Realisation dawns.........

Go for it! None of the members has really done anything paint wise yet have they?
