Anyone else see Derek's little comment ?

"I see us south yorkshire/north midlanders can arrange a regular meet !! but you southern/northerners only seem to talk about it ?? ah well !!! "

You gonna sit back and take that ? LOL

Right, let's get too it and arrange a southern meet. I reckon Swindon sounds a good start and I have made a list of a few people who are in a reasonable distance for this. The list is not comprehensive so sorry if I missed you, just get your name and location down here.

Spirit979 - Plymouth
Richieelliott - Cornwall
Brind - Pompey
Jaysback - Swindon
Simon - Wiltshire
Bonsai Boy - Berks
Paul - Berks
ITMatt - Twickenham
Supaflea Guy - Bristol
Stevie.c - Bracknell
ReggieK - Bracknell
Legnum Boy & Banjo - Herts INSERT INTO post VALUES (too far ??)
Landy - Powys INSERT INTO post VALUES (too far ??)

It's 2 hrs for me, but I am sure we have enough here to make this a decent event, and we could even arrange somewhere slightly more interesting than Ikea :D :D :D

So, who's up for it ?

SGHOM
11-01-2004, 10:16 AM

It's only been posted for 16 mins before your reply mate - and I agree there is nothing wrong with Ikea....on a Sunday.....in January......in the rain....oh, what am I saying, it's sh1t ! LOL :D I thought we could go more upmarket and meet at B+Q or something so we can play with the drills and pretend to be secret agents.....lol :p

At the risk of having a boot in both camps, I could make Swindon. Lets see if the north midlanders lynch me now today!

In years gone by I would be there no probs, but six month old, means trips limited to 1 bottles worth before she gets really cranky, plus wife sleeping off effects of MY birthday bash, so just me, baby, teletubbies and this old computer for company.

ps anyone near Leeds?

Brind
11-01-2004, 11:34 AM
They sell Lava lamps in Asda at the moment, reduced in price too.. my mum bought one. :D

I'm busy as hell at the moment but depending on where and when I'll see what I can do.

sorry brind I'm a bit confused, what was that last post in reference to?

I'm a southerner, and proud of it. I've even been known to drink a shandy!

Swindon is OK for me, sundays are better than saturdays generally speaking. But if a date is set, if I'm around I'll be up for it.

BTW, at the moment I am well south of the lot of you, working in Tel-Aviv for the next two weeks, 17 degrees, dinner by the med, _really_ safe public transport :undecided

Anyhoo, there you go, lets see if anyone else throws their hand up.

, apparantly, it's from a cat jumping off the roof!!
Yeah, ok... it's probably not Dennis, but he does jump from the GARAGE roof, not the CAR roof onto the boot sometimes. In the abscence of anyone or anything owning up, he can shoulder the blame!!!

Now you spilt the beans on that, let's talk about your Leggy, shall we.... where to start - how's about your oh-so-usefull boost controller?! :-D... Or what about...... Nah, I'm not that evil INSERT INTO post VALUES (yet!) :devil5: :devil5: :wavey: ...

SGHOM
11-01-2004, 10:32 PM
the boost gauge is fine, & the fitting is fine. it's just that one pipe was not removed/re-routed correctly. [ ask Dave ]
will get it sorted asap. the guy who fitted it has not done one before, & he thought he'd got it right !! not to worry !!!

ReggieK
12-01-2004, 02:25 PM
Clearly I have missed the boat here and the thread has moved onto, seemingly, more important things.

But just in case it's still on, I'm quite happy to meet in Swindon. After all it's only 40 minutes, scratch that, that was in old car, 20 minutes away :D

If Kieran comes he's not allowed to comment on state of car, nor break down in tears. :D It has some cracked paintwork on rear bumper and the front is scratched to buggery. They are due to be repainted in a couple of months.

The Swindon along the M4 between Bristol and Reading mate

SGHOM
12-01-2004, 09:29 PM
148.7 miles from me ! OR !! 171.1 miles if you go the RAC way. AA route takes the A roads, [ughh ] RAC route comes off the M5 at gloucester. mmm ??

Simon
12-01-2004, 10:05 PM
come off at M5...dont bother with going all the way down to Bristol! It will only take 25 minutes "cutting" the corner off...whereas if you stayed on the M5 you would only have just got to Bristol within 25 minutes....and then still have a 30 min drive up to Swindon. the A419/A420 is a fast dual carriageway. :cool1:

Spirit
12-01-2004, 10:12 PM
Cheers Simon, never been that way so wasn't sure

Simon
12-01-2004, 10:18 PM
although if the "northerners" are game they could travel down the M5 while you and any others are travelling up the M4.....and meet "HEAD ON" at Bristol M4/M5 interchange..................... :cool1: and travel up M4 in style!!

getting from my place, through sheff, through chesterfield, & then hit traffic near heathrow !! :$ :$
that was in my 406, kept it at a steady 115 mph all the way down !! :D

There's a service station between J18 & 17 on the M4. We could all meet there and cruise to Swindon or wherever together?

Spirit
12-01-2004, 10:50 PM
Was thinking we could meet off INSERT INTO post VALUES (if I remember correctly) J16 of the M4 INSERT INTO post VALUES (Swindon West). I remember a Hilton hotel and a pub there - is that right Simon ? If so then a meet just before here may not be worth it as we can all convoy elsewhere together once we meet

The hilton pub has a small car park and has expensive food :undecided although a short cruise away is a cinema/bowling complex with "TGI fridays" thing and a "Pizza Hut" with acres of car park!!!!!!!

With the Swindon area you can go "in town" for a meet...eg above....or just out of town for something "nice" .....depends on what we require

:boing3: The suggestion is as follows:-

A meeting place. "The Churchill" Pub with large car park. M4 junction 16 Swindon. South of M4 sign posted Wootton Bassett A3102. The pub is 1 mile away on the right hand side on this road. :lost:

Early birds can have a drink while waiting :beerclash and start "kicking Tyres". Once everyone has arrived and had a good chat we will leave together......repeat TOGETHER! for an enjoyable a-road drive INSERT INTO post VALUES (maps will be posted asap) approximately 15/20 minutes max. depending on route INSERT INTO post VALUES (keeping to speed limits!!!!!!!!!) :stop:

We will pass through Avebury, a World Heritage Site INSERT INTO post VALUES (stone Circle); where the bikers usually go for their meets due to the surrounding, fast, easy sweeping a-roads! :evil1: and arrive in Lacock. :welcome:

Lacock is a National Trust village and is where parts of Harry Potter were filmed. The Red Lion is our stop for proper "Tyre Kicking" and food!.INSERT INTO post VALUES (they usually have car clubs stopping at the lion, and have said they can "cater for people like us"!!!!. :wtf: The Red Lion was noted in the Domesday Book and even Oliver Cromwell stayed there....so it must be good. :D

The Red Lion offers good size car park, food, drink.....and Lacock is nice for those who want to have a look around.

Once you get bored, Lacock is 5 minutes away from Junction 17 M4, so very easy for most members and well signposted. :lost:

Not only do you get to meet other members/VR-4's but get to visit an interesting place/s.

If people are happy i will confirm Pub table and post the road routes to and from the meeting point to the pub.

we've had a change of plan so to speak.. the missus and I will be going down and staying at `Le' Hotel de Simare` (of the JPM fame) on the 13th/14th. Travelling down in the Golf.. (if it makes it :rolleyes5 )

So thanks again for the offer , but well see you there :-b
