because of all the secrecy and the way it is worded, it does sound like it was him. And surely if he was ok he would have made a tv appearance or something by now?

Horrible, horrible, horrible news. It seems confirmed from the other sites I've visited.

My thoughts are with the whole family.

The gentleman of rally.

very very sad

Autosport has the Sunday Times quoting both his manager & brother Alistair, who say Colin was flying the helicopter.

He was the fastest rally driver of his generation - sometimes just too fast to get to the end of a rally & win.

Very sad news indeed...the Scotsman has an article confirming Colin McCrae has died but no other details of anyone else.

I used to live across the road from a friend of Colin's...a good family friend...his next door neighbour had 2 sons who suffered from Muscular Dystrophy...they were avid car rally fans and one christmas, Colin landed behind their house and chapped the door...Bill had asked Colin if he would pop over and meet them as they were such huge fans...he was expecting him to arrive in a car - instead he landed in the playing field behind the house and casually strolled up to the door...knocked on it and one of the kids answered...burst into tears at the shock of having one of his hero's at his door and they spent an afternoon together...he was an all round good guy and wasn't big headed with his success...a terrible loss...

Very sad news and my thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time.

BBC news 24 have said that a formal identification of the bodies will be made this afternoon....

A HUGE loss to a great many people and to the racing world. Such a shame. :( :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

Richard Burns, Michael Parks and now Colin McRae, some of the best of UK rally talent. Not fair is it.
A real tragedy for the rallying world and his family.

A very sad day for Rallying. As many have already said, he was as skilled as he was down to earth. A terrible loss.

I'm just in shock. My biggest motorsport hero in the 1990s by a country mile. Saw him a few times at the RAC/Network Q/GB Rally, and he was just soooo fast and spectacular, broadside when everyone else was foursquare but still the quickest. Commentator at the Spa GP has just "confirmed" it as I write this.

Roger Clark, Richard Burns, and now Colin McRae. Every British Rally GB winner gone within a decade.

great the sun will get hold of that, instant sabotage and blown out of proportion....

really gutting, mcrae was just a legend in everyway possible, the only thing he did was blight us with scoobys and gold alloys....but what a guy, richard burns and mcrae, probably the best racing team of the past few decades. will be sorley missed
