I would personally polish and then wax. I think they are a painted finish, so back to black may not be the best for a lasting black shine.

Right so no t cut needed to get rid of the grey?
Just polish... cool
Any preferences guys on polish?
I must admit now I am a wash and wax in a bottle kinda guy, so have never used separate liquid polish.... don't hate me she's silver!

T-cut is a polish ...

You should then put a wax on top.

On a similar note (looks for kieran) the (metal?) black bits on the door frame around the windows aren't as dark as I'd like, what would be recommended to make them as black as the rest of the paintwork? I'd thought of polishing them but they don't seem to have a clearcoat or anything on them so I didn't want to take too much paint off them.

Hmm T Cut is a lot harsher than polish (I thought) removing a layer of oxidised finish. Hence why in the old days metalic paint finishes were fubard.
You really think it needs to be that harsh or would a str8 polish do?

Hmmm.... T-Cut on the roof bars will probably not hurt them, try a small section first and go easy if you like. Whatever you use it does need to be something with a bit of 'cut' though in order to get rid of the oxidation. Super Resin polish has a limited cut, that might be a milder choice if you don't want to risk T-Cut.

The black round the windows is not so easy to get a good finish I would be interested to hear a trick or two on those!

Me too! Mine have faded over the last couple of months - I wonder what the dealer used?

I've used Polish on the roof bars to good effect.
The black around the doors cleaned up nicely with Autoglym Bumper Gel (i think thats what its called), but it doesnt last particularly long. Good for a bit though.....

It would seem that the paint on the door surrounds is very very thin.

It oxidises then over a period of time of polishing they just get worse.

The only permanant solution i think is to get them resprayed and laquered (sp?).

Both my V6's and VR4's door surrounds are fubared.
