This is going to be a good post bad post kind of story....

The exhaust arrived dirty as Derek broke his pressure washer.

But a bit of alloy wheel cleaner and a good wash later, it was beautiful!

The car went on to the ramps no problem, allowing easy access, and the mounting points were obviously all the same.

But the joints are in different positions on the two pipes!

So the question is, can the long section of the pipe be cut to allow Dereks old back box to be attatched to my exhaust, or am I back to the drawing board and finding someone else to buy a fujibutsi back box?

keep the section I sold you, & take to a garage/exhaust centre & get them to weld on a new flange. shouldn't take too long, or cost to much. I must admit though, I thought it would have fitted ??? is it because your's is the facelift model ?? any thoughts anyone ??

PS .... are you sure about the cheap wine ??

LOL!

Booze Crooz in early Dec. Most of it has been good! Vicky enjoys the Anjou, the Chenet was good value for what it is, I don't think anything else was that cheap!

Booze Crooz in early dec !

As you might or might not know, I'm partial to a small sherry at christmas, & the occasional cigarette. but living in Sheffield, you cannot get further away from any potential 'booze cruise' than here !! :INSERT INTO post VALUES ( :INSERT INTO post VALUES (

Okay - assuming I can get a new flange welded, do I cut my mid pipe or Dereks old back box pipe?

SGHOM

As I said earlier Nick, I wouldn't cut the new rear part. your old exhaust is now defunct, so cut that back to get the new one to fit. you never know, you may want to upgrade again in the future, [ to a huge twin !! ] & sell on the 'complete' fujibutsi section. :D

I agree with Derek.......your rear pipe looks a bit past its best! I know a man with a welder........ ;)

Actually, I was thinking that if the worst comes to, I may be travelling back to Mr. & Mrs BDA's for a bit of grovelling!

You'll need to find a bit INSERT INTO post VALUES (if there is one) where the pipes line up exactly. Hold the new rear box under the old one and try and get an idea of the existing pipe lines up with teh fujitsubo's flange.

Then I'd get it cut and a flange welded on there. Would suggest removing that bit of pipe before welding the flange on, though, although you may get away with it if you can remove some of the rubbers and drop the existing pipe away from the floor a bit.

Cheers,

Calum

Good news!!

£20 later, and my nearly new back box is attached! Have I said thanks, Derek? The sound is much nicer at low revs, but not droney on the motorway. Fantastic! I can also feel the difference in power at high revs. The engine carries on strong now until the gear change, whereas before there was a fall off above 6000 rpm. I even get a little raspy fart noise as the car changes gear near the red line! (I guee that this is something to do with the turbos?)

Several years ago I read a maxpower in which a guy who had played with a sierra said 'rinsin' everytime he thought something was cool. I am beggining to understand!

Glad its all sorted out..........have you fitted the de cat pipe? This may account for some of the extra responsiveness!

Still not as loud and lairy as mine or Dereks though!!!! ;)

Nick Mann

No de-cat yet. Hopefully this weekend. I didn't want to fit it as the car was due a service and I thought that they would cancel the warranty. I think the back box is so much more free flowing that it makes the difference by itself. Only noticeable at v high revs.

Sorry to say it, Dave, but as a day to day car I don't want it to be as loud and lairy as yours and Dereks! Glad you are both happy with yours, though.
