The centre (silver) dashboard and auto climate control found on 2.5 V6s (facelifted cars), can that fit on 2.0 classic models?

In terms of mechanics i'm sure it would fit. Im not aware of mitsi making two different dash's.

In terms of electronics and control i think it would be a custom loom job to get it to work.

Some 2.0 models have that dash. But if you mean converting from normal air con to climate control, I think Kieran looked into it once and its a VERY difficult job.

I have the 2.5 V6 and was thinking of getting a 2.0 classic model and changing the dash to the silver one on it as well (as classic only has plain grey).

The 2.0 Classic, do high milers cause any problems? I've seen one with 100k on the clock and 3 previous owners and with FSH.

Are high milers best avioded?

Cant speak much for the 2.0 but i would guess that if it has full mitsi SH 100k wouldnt be a problem at all. If looked after im sure it will do 170K easily.

It more depends on how the 100k has been done. If it is an ex-taxi :P then I wouldnt consider it. If however it did 80k of that with its first owner as a company car I wouldnt worry too much.

If you are purchasing from a garage I really would recommend trying to get hold of the last registered owner and asking them what the car was like.

Quite easy to do if you have a name and address from the V5 and they are not ex-directory.

100k miles is not high mileage, my galant on a 135k is not high mileage, infact its about 10k miles over average for my car.
high mileage is at least over 150k
and my galant is pretty much full service history due for its next one now, and it suffers no tapping from lash adjuster etc

Just out of interest why would 80k done by an ex taxi oner be worse then 80k done by first owner company car?

Wouldn't both be same thing? :)

I always thought anything over 70k is high milege. Well, that what most dealers say. :)

Also, with high milege on galant the fear of the Auto gearbox failing is high I thought as these cars gearbox prone to failure?

Ex-taxi. lots of stop start driving changing of gears etc.
80k for a company car usually means lots of miles stuck at 70-80mph up and down motorways, much kinder on the car.

I purchased a rover 600 with 100k on the clock that had been a company car. I did another 70k miles in it with no problems at all.

My V6 had 85K on it when 3 years old but it was owned by a leather car care kit salesman. It now has 108K on the clock and is very very tight and smooth still.

To be honest I dont think the gearboxes are not prone to failure any more than any other car. Its all dependant on whether the car has been looked after. Gearbox fluid changes etc.

Motorway miles = good, taxi miles = bad.

To change over the aircon would be a BIG job. Dont forget the climate control until does everything remotely controlled by the unit, whereas the std unit does it with levers operated by the driver. I would gues you'd need to strip out the whole dash and colling unit. I really would bother unless you are as flexible as some female porn stars i've been told about!

My current Galant, a 1990 manual 2.0 hatch has 180k on the clock - I bought it at 12 months old with 10k on the clock from the main dealer and have looked after it all the way.

That is the key as others have said here. I've done oil and filter changes every 3k and the usual scheduled Mitsubishi service at 6k and it runs like new...

The only problem I've had was the gearbox going at 40k - but thankfully that gearbox, which was a Diamond Exchange one from Mitsubishi (not sure if they still do those deals), has lasted me ever since, and on the same new clutch which was also replaced at the time.

My old 2.0 is coming up 120k (in the clutches of my brother). It's doing great.

Changing over the air con is not going to happen. I asked about it once and the upshot is that there's WAY too much to change over.

This means that the silver dash cover won't fit over the knobs, but you could get a wood one and paint over it.

Yep, I looked into it with my old GLS, and the work involved made it one of those "Anything's possible, but you'd be barmy!" jobs!!

my galant is on 135k or 137k cant remember still sweet as a nut engine wise and bodywork wise and everything else apart from the gearbox.

average mileage is 12000 a year. so see how many miles are on the clock and how old the car is and do the math and see if its over, bangon or under.
150k is high mileage
