Lewis just got his 5th pole of the season in Japan, in difficult driving conditions for everyone. Button also got his best place for a year, in 7th - however he will start in 6th as Rosberg has to take a ten place penalty due to an engine change !

Looks like it will be damp/wet tomorrow for the race too. At least it was worth getting up at 5am to watch

1. HAMILTON McLaren 1m25.368s
2. ALONSO McLaren 1m25.438s
3. RAIKKONEN Ferrari 1m25.516s
4. MASSA Ferrari 1m25.765s
5. HEIDFELD BMW 1m26.505s
6. ROSBERG Williams 1m26.728s
7. BUTTON Honda 1m26.913s
8. WEBBER Red Bull 1m26.914s

Shall I forward this onto the various other websites, TV channels and radio programmes that would announce this too ?

Knowing it's fairly obvious we discuss anything regarding the GP, I would have advised not logging on until you had watched it.

That was stunning, I'm almost speechless! With the daft F1 rules we won't know how good it was until part way through the race tomorrow, but I can't see his fuel being so different to Alonso's that would explain a 6 tenths gap between them. Just stunning driving.

Is anybody else doing the British thing of worrying still though? I remember 1986 when Prost was 13 points behind Mansell going into the last 2 races (and you only got 9pnts for a win then as well). No, can't happen, can't happen, can't happen....c'mon Lewis!

Oh indeed, would we have it any other way /lol

I can see a few smokes being consumed in the next 24 hrs

Well done Lewis, I've been watching this lad this season...

I regarded his initial success with scepticism, I put it down to beginner's luck quite frankly... However, Lewis has so far weathered the storm of McLaren's politics, Alonso's ego, the bullsh!t FIA, won races and perhaps conquered his own fears and doubts about being within grasp of the Ultimate Success.

I tip my hat to you Lewis, I doubted you to begin with but I really think you've got the minerals to win this one and I wish you every success.
