can you believe, the Red Arrows are 'too british' to fly at the Olympics in 2012?
/Grrr
It's political correctness gone mad. /pan
There's a Downing St petition to let them fly (http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/RedArrows2012/?ref=redArrows2012)

WTF?
I don't understand that at all. Might as well remove the entire British olympic team for the same absurd reason

Government Response, 27 September 2007, while petition was still open
The e-petition asking the Prime Minister to "to Allow the Red Arrows to Fly at the 2012 Olympics" is ongoing. This is a response in advance of the closing date from the Government
This allegation is not true. The Government has not banned the Red Arrows from the London 2012 Olympic Games. The organising committee of London 2012 will decide what to include in the Opening Ceremony and other celebrations - but with almost five years to go, decisions are yet to be made on what these will look like.

that's interesting Nick
All Downing St petitions are vetted before being made public.... so either:
- there's no ban, and the vetting team screwed up,
- or there is/was some sort of ban, and the government's changed its mind.
- or the Dept of Culture Media & Sport got ahead of themselves
It must be true: it's in the sun (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007421005,00.html)
Google News' earliest report is from the Lincolnshire News (http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=156130&command=displayContent&sourceNode=242285&home=yes&more_nodeId1=156139&contentPK=18407510)- is that where the Red Arrows are based?
That article ends with "The Department for Culture, Media and Sport was unavailable for comment."
Which makes me think the story is true... and you can now guarantee that the Red Arows will fly at London 2012.
