Ha!, funnily enough I am half way through this type of thang myself at the mo!, nice on Derek, looks good, you got a link to the ebay thang. I have individual 10mm leds I am experimenting with no holder yet but probably a custom, BUT your idea looks like less work!

dunno ?? but they are only used in the abbey car park. :inquisiti

I'm not sure on the legal side of things. I was really looking for an led side light, to replace the 5w bulb in the headlight, and was going to use 1 x 10mm led as a sidelight, (and then things gathered momentum and it escalated to an audi type thang!) But someone did say to me that an led may be too bright for a side light???, So not sure on that. My bthinking is, it is a light so that people can see you, and doesn't have to be as bright a a headlight, but I don't see a prob with it being brighter that other sidelights, What do you reckon??

SGHOM
15-10-2007, 08:57 PM
They are not as bright as the glare from my camera makes out. certainly not as bright as Audi's.

Louis

Derek, that looks excellent, it seems to be being projected by the headlight reflector?. might be an idea to try and seal them in so theyare seperate from the main lights?, just a thought!

I can't see why it wouldn't be legal if angel eyes are? Also, does anyone think that this is the next "in" thing after the angel eyes craze? Would like to see better pics though

There was a query on my son's Mk4 Golf GTi at MOT time. He's got Hella angel eyes and the tester said they were too blue :inquisiti ....... but he let them go.

Yeah, I was going to do the angel eye thang and then I thought it's starting to look dated, especially when not on BM's, so I am going for an led sidelight, but trying to keep it looking stock!. Like you said there is a danger of it ending up looking like you were part of a fad!.
I see golfs and audi's with the leds and they do look good, and I do like how derek's look, bnut I may just go with one in each lamp!

I'll try & take a pic at dusk, so you can see the effect/brightness & not just the glare. :afro:

do you just stick the entire head lamp unit in there for the 5-7min and it pulls apart ok.

what a good tip i have tried to get mine apart before and gave up due to potential damage of forcing them apart.

did you stick on a backing try to stop it melting or the bars of the oven shelf.

i am not tacking the p*ss i want to try this for myself as the adjuster in the head lamp have knackerd up, screw turns but no movement in the reflector it a bit floppy.

yep ! :afro:
get a flat blade screwdriver under the clips to free them. bung it in the oven [ gas mark 4/5 ] for a few mins, then give it a damned good tug to seperate the 2 halves. you may have to pop it back in the oven a few times so the glue melts sufficiently.

Mate did this to his Scooby - the oven bit to replace the head lamps on his...said it was dead easy but a bit unnerving.

I use a LED as my front light on my mountain bike - very bright and great run time but when it is wet, there is no illumination off the road so you can't actually see any detail...I'm assuming this will be the same for car lights that are LED?

Johnny_Cashed

I think they should only be used like the Audi's as DRL.

Sorry, mix up in terminology! I meant the parking lights ie first click on the headlight stalk which is just there to help people notice you.

Re lights - how easy would it be to obtain and fit small strobe lights behind the grill - white probably or maybe red and blue...

And who could supply such lights...?
