ok so rail mounting my sard FPR was a PITA!!@!!

after all was done... started up the car,

sweet started up... to easy!!.. WRONG!!

when i went to set the base pressure...

vacc line off, cant get any higher than 30ish psi :(
on change when the vacc line in on,

when i blip the gass the pressure goes up...

i coundnt see any leaks,

how much of a leak would there need to be to totally screw up the pressure?

i could get lower pressure, but not higher??

any ideas would be appreciated.

i havent been able to solve the problem so have gone back to standard setup,
when i refit the sard, im goning to remote mount it on the firewall,
the rail mount is just a paint in the ass!!

Gly have you fitted the Walbro as well and hard wired it or is it still on the standard pump and reduced voltage at idle.

standard pump on standard voltage,

should i do the high voltage mod???

and how do i do that?

i was doing one thing at a time to avoid problems!! grrr!!

No it should be fine then .My one is on the standard pump and voltage just now as well. No chance you have the inlet and oulet round the wrong way.

You can get lower pressure at idle, but not higher?

Did you manage to see what was the fuel pressure with stock FPR?

PS: One of my friends had the ports of his FPR switched... :)

no ports are the right way around,
fuel rail to>>
port on side of sard fpr >>
then port on bottom of fpr to factory return line >>

vacc line of when try to set base pressure,

the only thing i did do different was use the sard guage port for the rail input,
and the line input for the guage, would this matter?? they both looked the same/connected to me?

also i did blip the throtal, and the pressure on the guage did go up,
so im guessing the guage and fpr are ok?

either a small leak? or weak pump??

sorry no reading on standard setup, no where to fit the guage for this.

maybe to many bends? extensions on the getting to/from the fpr??
is air in the fpr/guage fuel line a possiblity???

here how its was setup....

Any chance then that the gauge is under reading. Do you have another one to try.

With low load there is a relay on the firewall that lowers the amount of voltage going into the fuel pump (at idle it can go bellow 8v).

You must connect +12v from your battery directly after this relay as shown on the picture... only then you should measure your Fuel Pressure.

From Workshop manual 6a13 idle fuel pressure is 230kPa. With vacc line off - 289-309kPa.

If that didn't solve your problem (or shown that there is none :) ) ...

Are you sure SARD FPR ports are the same?

How much pressure can your pump deliver with return line shut close? When you switch your ignition off, does the pressure in fuel line stay visually constant or it falls off?

yep sure that the ports on the sard are the same.

the pressure stays up with the engine off, well the times i looked at it did,

im going to have another go in the weekend,
but ill do the walbro pump and hot wire (battery voltage mod)

so with the

walbro, battery voltage and battery voltage mod,
and sard fpr,

i should set it at 44psi base then attach the vacc line? and all should be fine??

i thought there must have been something stange with the pump voltage because as soon as i gave it some gas the pressure would come up quite a bit.
10-20psi maybe more?

the guage is brand new so im hoping i havent bought a faulty item,
it looked to be working prefectly.

with the 12v constantly on the walbro i wont have to worry about the firewall voltage relay will i?

what i may do.....

install the fpr on the firewall,
do the 12v mod on the factory pump,

then see if i can get the presure needed,
if i can, put in the walbro? set that up. and should all be fine? i hope.

if i cant, then ill cry! ill have to track down a spare guage and another fpr to see what may be at fault?

Hey hey... stop.. my head is hurting from having to digest all those questions in one go... :D

Yup. It should be around 43.5 psi with vacc line off.

Isnt it dented in the picture... doesn't realy matter anyhow :)

Even with a stock pump you won't have to worry... check your Fuel Pressure with +12V from the battery applied (temporarily) to where it shows in the picture (up the thread... its from workshop manual, so don't worry its safe procedure), you should be fine!

... to tell you the truth, I've since gone back to the old ways... so the pumps don't have to work like mad at idle... :)

So in short - I don't think you've got any problems with your shiny new SARD FPR :) ... since 8 or less volts at the pump at idle will give you lower Fuel Pressure... if you hot wire it - it should stay at 44, but then again do it unless absolutely necessary. Pumps working hard all the time tend to heat the fuel... that not a good thing. If I were you, I would get that FP gauge inside the car - very useful... ;)

ok cool...

rail mounting it was a bitch to,

if only i had known it had to 12v applied befor i could set it it probabilly would have been ok.

with the 12v temporary do i just put 12v on the pin? do i need to dissconnect anything first so it wont blow any fuses etc??

anychance you can tell me the colour of the wire i need to put 12v onto?... dont wanna mess it up.

thanks you valmes, and peter!

walbro in, hotwire mod done, sard fpr in, and mounted on the fire wall,
base pressure set, all appears to be fine!!

rep points for the both off you.

So Gly - how does your setup look now you've finished it - And I don't suppose you have a picture of the 'hotwire' modification, do you?

Gly

didnt up rail mounting it,,, to much of a pain.... its on the firewall like very one elses.

ill write up a guide on the hot wire mod,
pump is now getting 13.5v constantly via a relay triggered by the factory pump feed.
