Hi there. Need a bit of advice from someone about my vr4.
I have a 1997 Vr4 saloon manual.
Just wanted to know if i could put evo brakes (discs. callipers etc) on it, i.e. will they go straight on?
And does anyone know a good dealer for a set of tappets and a cam belt?
Thanks.
Paul

HI

No the evo brakes don't fit straight on.

The tappets normally get sorted by a engine flush and a good oil.

I organised a group buy from PRI racing last year on lash adjusters. I am still happy with mine a year on!

The 1997 will not accept Evo brembos - the hole spacing on the hub carrier is different. VR4s started using the same hole spacing as evos after the facelift - late 1998 onwards. Search for brembo, hub carrier, etc and you will find plenty of info on what you will need to do. In the meantime, you can upgrade your discs/pads using the non-brembo Evos as a guide as the discs and pads are identical. Using the Evo 4 is the best way of avoiding brembo confusion!

Camskill sell parts, as do RHDJapan and a couple of ebay sellers. I have never bought a cambelt, so couldn't recommend a particular source.

Thanks. I have done 3 engine flushes so far and it is tapping terrible. I have been putting good 5w30 oil but think its too thin so tried 10w40 and is still playing up. Any ideas?

As above no wont fit straight on and standard alloys are to small to fit back on 17" at least

I couldn't resolve mine with oil flushing, so bought new tappets. I wasn't the only one!

Most times the flushing solves the problem, but not always.

How much did you get your tappets for and where did you get them?
Is it a big job changing them do you know.
Cheers

we got them from www.priracing.com but they no longer appear to list them. It may be worth a call or email to them? We paid £140ish, but that was a very good group buy price!!

Camskill also do them: Click Here (http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m22b0s1399p6268).

Fitting can be done in 3-4 hours by a competent mechanic. It took me more like 6, but that included a trip to KFC, several dropped tools involving taking extra bits off to retrieve them and a couple of stripped threads to deal with.

so are evo 4 /5 same discs ,calipers and pads or are they better ?
ian ,
(as a pre facelift )

Pads and discs are the same, so any upgrade for the evo 4 will fit all VR4s. AFAIK Evo 4's have the post facelift caliper spacing, so still no use to a prefacelift VR4.

But when searching for grooved/drilled discs and race pads, lots of people quote Evo4 or 2-pot Evo caliper, whereas almost no-one quotes VR4!!

If they have made a mistake on the website, point it out to them. I remember spotting something on there a while back where a part that was the same for the Legnum VR4 and the Evo was listed but the Legnum part was more expensive! I pointed this out to Mike at Camskill over the phone and he fixed the website there and then and brought the Legnum price down in line with the Evo part price :2thumbsup
