Stock VR-4 quarter times

Was running about 15.4 (although got slower as it got hotter) last sunday at Santa Pod. 60ft times were poor (2.4-2.5s), as I wasn't launching. Gave up after 3 runs as there were some awesome cars there to watch, and I was really just wanting to get a 'before' set of runs to compare next year when I've added a few bits.

Annoyingly, I got convincingly beaten by my old Scirocco on one of the runs. Got my own back by begging a go in the Roc and beating the current owners best time of the day. :scholar:

Anyhoo, are those times about right for a stock car with fuel/pushchair/child seat/etc on board? How much will a 2.5k launch take off those times?

Yeah, that's about right. Generally speaking the times for standard, automatic cars with a 'daily' load go anywhere between 15.5ish to 14.9ish. A launch will improve that and probably take you closer to 15 seconds.

if you up the boost and launch harder then you will be closer to 14 seconds than 15 seconds :)

Yep - as K says, I have seen worse and better.

A good launch at around 2k can take at least 0.2s off, possibly more. I would be suprised if it was more than about 0.5s regardless of how hard you abuse your ATF and drive train!

I think my quarter mile time dropped from 15.1s to 14.7s when I tried launching at Santa Pod.

I believe dickytim (NZ) did a 14.5 in his (bog standard) without launching. This was a manual.

Stock manual 1/4 mile times are something we don't really know much about in the UK.

Although a manual "not launching" is a bit different from an auto not launching. The auto is the same every time, whereas the manual can be at any point between driving like a granny and 6000rpm, move your clutch foot sharply left!!

I was running 15.0 without launching and got down to 14.496 with a 3k launch in an auto.. Oh and this was with a full tank of gas.. /rally
