Hello everybody,

I've only recently discovered the genius that is the Mitsubishi Galant VR4 and am now dying to get my hands on one. There's one for sale nearby and I was wondering if any of you guys knew anything about it (or used to own it?!). It's reg is EHS 27B, it's a Mauve facelift model with 18" Black Inovit alloys.

It's got 93,000 miles and they're looking for £5,500, any thoughts?

I'm looking forward to being a legitimate member of the VR4 owners club very soon!!

To much money, I did loads of looking and prodding over 8 months and just paid £4500 for 96 p plate legnum VR4, with 27'000 on the clock (miles) thats as much as i would have wanted to go, more miles - less money (thats just me i spect)

Hello again, thanks for the quick replies so far, it's 1999 I believe. Regarding the spec I don't actually know. I was told it was officially imported by Ralliart, it's non leather interior and has the red steering wheel, Mot'd til Sept 08 and has a full service history at Xtreme.... don't know if that helps?!

I still think a 93'000 mile car at £5500 is a lot, especially one like that.

Cambelt is due within the next 10,000 miles for that price you'd want the camblet done and a full cat D service . Even then the price is on the high side , maybe 4700 -5k with the above done is a fair price for the car

saying that the mileage does not matter too much as mine has 175,000 miles on the clock and still going very nice

Oh, I should mention too that it's from an independent dealer and would come with a 3 month warranty..... I had it out this afternoon (in Wellingborough) but it was just on a dual carriageway and in traffic so the diff and brakes didn't have much to do but it seem pretty clean...

The warranty is not worth much. The price is fair for the year, IMO, so if you feel the car is clean, then I don't think it's a deal to walk away from. I have seen some things on cars with Extreme service history that haven't impressed me - however that is also true of a few main dealers!

Good luck, and feel free to ask more questions. I assume you have found the buyers guide on this site?

Yep, I've had a good look through it. Cambelt was odne at 47k and thought another was done recently but unless he can show me some evidence then I think I'll walk away... even though I'm in love (not sure about the wheels though, think they look a bit lanky perhaps... pics here, http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/cars_popup.jsp?did=4664&pageid=2&originalid=&gid=nogroup&tid=46&start=5&distance=0&adcategory=cars&channel=DEALERPAGE&id=200742296930697 )

Also the red parts either side of the steering wheel have worn to black at the horn area on both sides, looking through your gallery that didn't appear to be a common problem??!!...

I have seen the red leather wearing, but never seen a red leather wheel on a car with that many miles, so difficult to say.

I too don't like the wheels! And it is Indigo Blue, not Trigger Mauve as you posted previously.

It sounds like you are thinking with your head as much as your heart, so I'm sure you'll end up doing the right thing!

I guess Ralliart VR4s don't come up for sale too often, and I don't really fancy waiting 6 - 8 months for another to become available, and so close to where I live .... it's almost a sign that I should buy this one! Got a quote from Sky Insurance today, £961 fully comp, best so far but they said it was with "Enzine" anyone heard of them?? Not much info on google!

ensign , they are a insurance company that deal with off the books stuff most of the brokers use them , highway , redsatr and an other one i can't remember

My car is with them via A-Plan , never had any issues , mind you never claimed anything apart from a windscreen last year

Cheers buddy, I did find some stuff on the net about ensign but the guy in Sky spelt it out to me on the phone and he definitely said e-n-z-i-n-e ..... maybe he's just having a bad day!

Latest news is that the cambelt has not been done so one is due. Dealer said that he'd be prepared to do the work, possibly inclusive in the current price. He said he'd have to check with services if that would be possible, otherwise the buyer may need to contribute to the cost...

Otherwise, what would it cost if I was to flush out the transmission and replace with Amsoil? Would I need any special equipment??

Thanks again....

Oh and by the way it IS ensign that Sky had quoted me with.

Transmission flush will cost you about 120 for the fluid ( maybe 10% less if your a member on here ) plus the cost of the flush which will be around 2hr's labor .

If they do the cambelt get them to do the water pump as well as if that ever fails you'll need to do the cambelt again - normal cost for this is £400 with the water pump

I've just sent Brunty a PM. Car looks great but isn't in the classifieds anymore, and it appears to have been for sale quite a while ago.

At that price it's out of my budget, but I'll see what he says...

Cheers
