Hi folks,

I finally sold my GTO after much deliberation. I am going to look at a Legnum VR4 tomorrow morning in Watford. Is there by chance anyone in the location who could come with me and give me an expert opinion?

Much appreciated

You will love the VR4 Mike, they are nice cars.

If you can get it up on a ramp, check stuff like leaking torque converter oil seal if its a tiptronic, and if it as it check the AYC isnt leaking but does work.

Engine wise its similar to your gto and they suffer the same hydraulic lifter noise that gto's do.

Cheers,

Ben.

If the above mentioned items Ben has stated are leaking what are the signs telling me? ££££? or minor run of the mill servicing.mot items?

Cheers guys and cheers to Tim who has volunteered to come shed an experienced eye over it with me. Much appreciated.

Fingers crossed its a good un

The torque converter seal is less than 10 pounds, but it requires the removal of the gearbox which takes about a day!

Depends what time your going over to Watford as I may be able to get over and assist

Im there for 12 o clock. Anyone got a pic of the underside and point to the general direction of the torque converter seal and the ayc unit? i suspect the ayc unit will be similarly placed as the 4ws unit on the GTO. centred and above the rear axle?

Cheers

make it stop before you make it go . :helmet:

Derek,

I must admit to adding an EBC first but I think the problem is that making it stop tends to cost much more than making it go. I know there are decent discs and pads that will improve the braking, however the Brembo route involves so much time and money I can see why the performance increases are easier to decide on.

Agreed. but using the car as it's intended to be used.... [ on the track obviously :helmet: ] the brakes should be a priority.

Whats the general concensus on brake pads with the standard discs? John mention Ferrodo D2500's or something? Does anyone have the part codes for these so i can check the prices out?

Cheers

carbontech pads faffing great
not had them fade on me yet my mate had them on his evo with glowing disks and they still performed

but bad points all which i cann deff live with
Minor squeek
First touch after long no use is delayed but still better than std
I find the dust dirty also

What he said. Unless you really want to spank it on track, a set of decent grooved discs and some carbotec pads will be more than you need on the road and the stopping power is excellent.

Just been searching for these carbontech, any specific place sell them? ie is there a Mitsi part code to match.

Anyone any experience of the Black Diamond Predator brake pads, the GTO's loved them on the standard disc setup. Not wishing to buck the trend just a thought :inquisiti

Nutter_John

I tried them with my Brembos, great on track but couldn't live with the wailing banshee for normal use. Now fitted Mintex MDB2592 pads no squeeeeel, low dust, stop well and cost about £25.

Any moderators out there, i have paid membership via paypal and waiting access to the members forum and the manuals to get my head around the workings of the car! Is it a simple task of upgrading my profile to show full membership etc and allow access to read all the guides?

especially if anything is written about the fuel gauge sensor thingamajiggy!

Cheers

Just an update, felt i had to mention this. After getting to the heart of the car over the weekend with Keiran and seeing the old fluids removed they werent that bad. Keiran pointed out a few bits and pieces that agrees with the low mileage of my car. I feel quite lucky now and am glad i put the call out for help with this very thread.

But i was out for a spin today and realised i have been quite lucky, on forums you ALWAYS hear the horror stories and in my opinion the good stories arent told often enough. For risk of getting slated for being soppy cheers again John and Tim. Next meet the beers are on me.
